Hi-

Anybody got weight, balance and dimensions for 5.0L ford?
Also, looking for weight difference between stock and aluminum heads.

Still trying to decide what to pu in the DeLorean.
For those unfamiliar, has a V6 aluminum block and heads SOC that
is also found in Volvo, Puegot and Renault with a custom oilpan to clear the
crossmember.
This bolted to a Renault transaxle in a rear engine config (hence concern with
weight and balance).

I've been told that the renault transaxle is strong enough but that I'll have
to make some new half shafts as the skinny guys that are there will twist too
much under added torque of v8.

Reason for swap. V-6 has 110k miles, holed piston and bent crank.
Heavy car with 140 horse V-6 is a slug (It should be at least as fast as it
looks :-)

anybody done this swap?
Anybody got any other suggestions for DeLorean motor swaps?

I'd like to keep it under $2k.

Also, back to the oilpan issue? Anybody drysumped the 5.0L?

They weigh 490 pounds.

Buick V6. They weigh about 375 pounds and produce reasonable power
even in plain old 2-bbl form. There are various factory turbo versions,
both carbureted and fuel injected, up to the SFI intercooled late GN
motors. Buick sells Stage I and II aluminum blocks and heads for
displacements out past 4.5 liters if you want to get crazy.

I wouldn't worry about the halfshafts. Iffen it ain't broken, don't
fix it. If/when you twist one, do something about it. If you don't
care to operate that way, deburr and polish the ones you have, have them
Magnuafluxed, and then have them shot peened.

Buick. <grin> Depending on local machine shop prices, the trans
adapter is going to eat a chunk of that. Your other alternative is to
go for a VW trans, where adapters are plentiful. Anyone for a 300hp
Evinrude two stroke V6? How about a SAAB V4? Rover 3500 V8? 454
Chevy? Mazda 12A or 13B rotary? Pinto 2000, or SVO 2.3 turbo? Maybe a
455 Olds? Adapters exist for all of those.

eeeeek!

I don't believe this!

It must be an IMPOSTER!

(I remember when I suggested a rotary swap to someone of the hotrod list..
I thot you didn't like 'em?)

Dave,

A coulpe of years ago, Car Craft mag had an article giving many of the outside
dimensions of the more popular American engines. The article DID not include the
weights of these. Do you have the stock weights of them? Would you post?

Interested in these at least

I wasn't suggesting he DO it, I was just mentioning the adapter was
available.

Personally, I'd like to see an Evinrude V6 in the back of a DeLorean,
but I like unusual stuff.

I got 460lbs
I also have the dimensions.
valve cover to valve cover 20"
header to header (stock?) 22"
aircleaner to bot. oil pan 27"
carb to bot. of oil pan 25"
water pump to back of block 22"
got more measurements too, just don't feel like typing them all in.

Anything more specific?

Heh heh..
I'm a 2-stroke fanatic.
I'd like to hear more about this Evinrude V6 (outboard boat motor?)
and how to get one into a car.
How big (displacement and dimensions) is this 2-stroker?
Emmisions would probably be hideous, but I'm not real concerned.

KEP makes an adapter, that's about all I know. We don't see outboard
motors much, living out here in the swamp.

Er... um... didya know there are a couple-three different companies
that make adapters to mount the Ford 1300/1600 Cortina/Fiesta motor up
to the Mini transaxle? And that the Cosworth BDA will also work? And
that you can get 2.5 liter stroker cranks for the Cosworth, and...
and...

Did you know what the definition of a "partially completed" hot rod is?

Hmm.. interesting.. I'd really like to experiment more with two
strokes. The power-to-weight is great..
That's also why I like rotaries.

Cool..
A 2.5 in a mini?!
But it probably wouldn't handle anymore.
And that is _THE_ great thing about minis.
However, one of the mini men did do a twin-engine mini to try to
compete with the AWD rally sedans. There is enough room for one engine
in each end and simply add the front springs to the rear.
I guess he was testing the thing and flipped it end over end nearly
killing himself.
This would be a great custom mini to build if one could get his hands
on two identical mini drivelines.

Good grief. I must have thousands of Partially Completed hot rods laying
around then. ;)

Nope. The GT750 was the water buffalo. Mine is the smaller, air-cooled
brother. A far cry from what I really want. (Yamaha RD350).

Enough babbling. I gotta get back to work.
