I get this error: MSDXM.OCX file is linked to missing
export Shell32.dll:EXTRACTIONICON.EXW.
According to Microsoft's OWN website, article Q224401,
found at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q22
4401
CLAIMS that you can fix the problem by following their
directions given. What a surprise to find that it doesn't
work!!!!!!! The note in the article states that the
correct version file for the Msdxm.ocx is 6.01.05.0217, but
after reinstalling according to the directions, and
checking the msdxm.ocx file version, it is not the one it
is supposed to be. All phone calls to Microsoft Support
(hah-how can they sleep at nights knowing they call
themselves "Support") are cut short when they hear that the
problem is Windows 95. All I want to know is where I can
find the Msdxm.ocx file whose version is 6.01.05.0217. How
difficult can this request be????
The error that you are receiving is letting you know that the version of
Msdxm.ocx is expecting functionality that is not present in the version of
Shell32.dll on your system so you need to update Shell32.dll, not Msdxm.ocx.
What version of Internet Explorer is on your system? In order to update
Shell32.dll, update Internet Explorer or if you are already running IE 5.0
or higher, then run the IE Repair tool or extract shell32.dll from the IE
5.0 or higher cab files.
If you have somehow managed to get Media Player 7.0 installed on your system
then uninstall it and install version 6.4 - the highest version supported on
Windows 95.

Microsoft has published for well over a year that support for Windows 95
would end in December of 2001, so if you choose to continue running Win95
then you need to rely on yourself or the newsgroups for assistance. The
individuals who call themselves "support" did not make the rules or set the
support limits - they are just a group of regular folks who would like to
keep their jobs so they follow the rules set by their employer.
