I've got a 96 Expl XLT with around 20K + miles on it and all of a sudden
two things just stop working...Any clues or similar experiences ???

1- The CD changer stopped working. When I press the CD button, I can
hear the CD player turn on but on the radio display it says 'NO DISC'.
If I press the eject button, again I hear the changer spin but nothing
happens. In short, I've got 6 disks in the changer, but I can't listen
to them or eject them ???????

2- I tried to plug in some tow lights into the plug extension Ford
provides but they do not work. I looked at the fuse and it seems to be
OK. I've plugged my tow lights into another vehicle and they work fine
so I know the prob is in the Explorer.

I guess I can take it to the dealer but I always hate doing that....any
help is appreciated....

Thanks - John Parisi

Good Evening John, I am a Ford service tech and let me try to help. I have
seen dozens of cd players fail due to loose change falling inside and
binding the internal
mechanism. To repair, open the center console lid and remove the tissue
holder,
console package tray and the cup holder-they all have clips and will pop
out. Next,
remove the 4, 7mm screws, 2 in front and 2 in back. Release the wiring
connector
by depressing the tab and pulling outward. Next, pull the cd player and
attaching plastic bracket up and out. remove the 6 phillips screws. Look
near the connector plug on player and locate the small hole. Insert a
toothpick and the cartridge will pop out. Use a flashlight and look inside
for any loose change, Paper or anything
that doesn't belong inside. Usually, you can turn the player upside down
and gently
tap the case to dislodge any coins. Needless to say, this is not a repair
that Ford
will pay for, even though Ford put the coin holder directly in front of
the player. You
can save yourself some "coin" by doing it yourself. Good Luck,

This has happened twice to mine. At first the cassetted would eventually
eject, sometimes after several days of trying. I've sent mine in for
repair twice, in fact thats where it is right now. Dr. Bob indicated that
often debris eg. coins etc. can fall in and jam them up, but I couldn't
find anything in mine.

Good luck.

I had this happen to my SHO after my son tried to install the CD cassette
the wrong way. Disconnecting the fuse for the radio fixed the problem.

Mark -- THANKS, you were right on !! I followed your detailed
instructions and what do you know - 45 cents in the bottom of the
changer. Everything is working great now.

THANKS AGAIN
