Hi I got a Presario 5000 and when I turn it on it only displays the
Compaq logo screen. I can NOT get into the bios, will not boot from
floppy, CD or Hard drive. I tried another HD w/ no luck. I un pluged
cables & removed PCI cards with no luck too.
This is a 5BW130 Celeron.

Any one knows why this is happening?
Thanks

What key are you hitting to enter the BIOS settings? It's F10 on Presarios.

Make sure your cdrom, harddrive, etc. is jumpered to cable select.

You seems have the same problem with mine. The solution is power down,
power on, hold F8 until you see dos interface asking to choose F1 or
F10, select F10, load BIOS default, then save and reboot. It is a
temporary solution. I post a message two days ago, asking something
related to the CMOS batery. Seems nobody care. Take a look. Send me a
message if you have answer.

Sometimes we don't have the answer, saying nobody cares is unfounded.

Thanks for the help guys. None of that worked. I was able to fine the
solution on "Compaq's forum" after searching for over an hour. After
doing this I was able to get into the BIOS (F10) and boot to Windows.
I still don't know why did this happen.

COMPAQ'S FORUM "SOLUTION"
CatWoman on 4/26/2001 answered:
"I got this solution from MLCohen and it worked for me:

Shutdown the computer. Remove all cables and open the computer. Use a
flashlight to find the CMOS jumper located on the motherboard or
systemboard.

Move the jumper to pins 2-3. Remove the IDE cable from the
systemboard/motherboard temporarily. Reattach the power cord, that is
plugged into outlet. Leave it there for 5-10 seconds.

Remove the power cord. Move the jumper back to pins 1-2. Reinstall the
IDE cable to the motherboard.

Reassembly the computer and reattach the cables. Boot the computer."
