Can anybody suggest a solution to my problem?

I have tried Dlink support 3 times - no solution!

HARDWARE:
Asus AV7 ATX motherboard
1Ghz Athlon t-bird
512 Mb PC133 ram
20 Gb Maxtor ATA 100 HD
PNY GeForce 2 32Mb video card in AGP slot
All PCI slots are clear.

SOFTWARE:
Windows XP Home Edition
Latest XP Service Pack 1 - installed
Latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers for XP - installed
Latest Promise ATA 100 drivers for XP - installed

I have tried to install the 520+ in every PCI slot with the same result. I
install the drivers for the 520+ as per instructions. Turn off computer.
Turn on computer and boot up. Computer does all post checks fine and begins
to load XP. XP animation shows green LED going across bar on screen.
Animation freezes and locks in same place every time.

If I remove the 520+ PCI card, computer boots with no problem.

This is causing me MUCH distress!

Does anyboby have any suggestions?

I would be very grateful for any help!

Thanks much.

Alfie

cant remember if the av7 had on board sound
i have been having a problem with the 520+ on a cusl2
and tried everything that tech support could come up with
just for the hell of it i took out the sound card and
no more problems.
if you have a pci or isa sound card give it a try
if it is onboard sound try disabling it and see if that does it.
it may be one of the drivers conflicting with the 520+ card

I've had the same trouble.
MSI K7T Turbo v5.0
1.8Ghz AthlonXP
512mb PC 133
40gig IBM HD
Geforce2 MX400
4 slots clear.

I've tried all for slots, but without success in Windows 98se.
I upgraded to Windows 2000 and still have the same problem
Have made several call to D-link tech support w/o any resolvement with
problems.

I have install the software, installed card, and it always comes up "no card
attached" and they ask to install generic network drivers

Every time the system crashes, or freezes, I must repeat the process all
over again.

I reported this problem on the forum before Christmas. Dlink refuse
to recognise the issue but I suspect they will fix it when the
firmware gets upgraded from V1.0. I have tried an ABIT KT7 board and
several ASUS A 7V boards with several 520+ cards. All fail to boot or
hang during POST. The boards do seem to work fine in the Intel, Tyan
and Shuttle motherboards we use. I have since tried the USRobotics
board and experienced exactly the same problem. Both wireless cards
use the same Texas Instruments chip set!

The "no card attached" problem is generally attributed to not having a
motherboard that is PCI 2.2 compliant. Check your mobo specs.

Noddy, there's still no sign of this firmware update that was promised for
Dec.....my systems pretty stable now I've disabled all my sound cards!!!!

I had the same problem with this card on a Windows 2000 Machine with current
patches. System halted and I got a parity bit error message. I returned the
card and tried a netgear ma311. Problem went away, but I never did figure
out why the dlink card would not work with my computer.

Wayne

I suspect that we are actually waiting on TI for the firmware upgrade.
My guess is that both dlink and USRobotics simply buy the module under
an OEM agreement.

S0, Buyers beware, the DWL-520+ may or may not be compatible with your
motherboard!

Hi

I was furious after spending half my day trying to get this card not
to lock up or blue screen my pc. I then phoned Dlink UK and felt even
worse. They ran through all the usual questions and also wanted to
confirm that I did not have a sound blaster fitted. I have an Asus
CUSL2 PIII 1Ghz running XPSP1 and Do have a sound blaster. Removing
the sound blaster made no difference.

They then confirmed that this is a known problem, BUT they cannot be
specific on what systems are affected and more importantly whats not.
They say that they problem has been known in taiwan (I guess they make
them there) for some time, but as they have heard nothing by now they
probably will not at all!!

They have nothing else in the product range as an alternative for me.
He gave me a returns number and suggested I send it back.

***HERE COMES THE GOOD NEWS****
As a last resort I installed the beta bios from asus for my cusl2. I
was running the latest (0009 I think) but thought what the hell and
installed beta. I could no believe it, but it boots and works
perfectly now. BUT it WILL lock up if I put the soundblaster back in.

So in summary Dlink confirmed they have 2 serious problems with these
cards. The first being a serious imcompatability with sound blasters
and the second being a unknown incompatability with potentially any
type of motherboard old or new.

PS. He did mention MSI boards in particular as being a problem.

Crap eh..

i also have a cusl2, and the dwl-520+
i just installed xp on it.
i installed the wrong sound blaster drivers
without knowing it. i installed the sb live value drivers
but have a sb awe64. i was not having any problems
even with the 520+ installed until i tried to use netmeeting.
when i did, the machine would reboot at the point that the two machines
actually connected. tech support tried everything but nothing worked.
finally i took out the sound card and drivers and i was able to connect with another computer
with netmeeting. but of course no sound. i could use netmeeting fine without
the 520+ installed.
next step. i installed the sb again with the correct drivers and the problem
came back only this time it would reboot with or without the 520+ installed.
what i have determined is that winxp does not like these cards and drivers.
on the creative website they do not have xp drivers for these cards
i have a similar problem with an awe64 in a abit bh6 motherboard running
winxp also.

Perhaps if we keep on posting we will at least some other poor souls
the heartache and hopefully get the attention of the guys in Taiwan to
fix the problem. The USRobotics card is just as bad! Same TI chip set
or should I say *hi* set.

I had no luck in getting this piece of #$%& to work. After numerous calls
to Dlink, bios update flashes and even support from Asus............couldn't
get it to boot. I just bought some Cat5 cable and hard wired it with an SMC
Ethernet PCI card.

So much for Dlink!

I bought two DWL-520+ to connect my home PC's. I have one PC with ASUS
A7V8X and it seems to work fine with DWL-520+ and another one with
ASUS A7V KT133 (VIA chipset and Promise IDE controller, PCI 2.2) and
it hangs up with the DWL-520+ installed. I tried stripping the
motherboard, leaving only the video controller (AGP) but it still
hangs up.
I called D-Link technical support and all I got was an advice to
exchange D-Link cards and make sure I don't have a faulty one. They
recorded the case but did not know anything about new firmware
releases.
In fact, I am quite surprised that this problem is still not resolved,
having in mind that A7V motherboards are very popular.

Anybody has more information?
Any ideas?

I just want to point out that this isn't just a problem with A7V boards. I
have a TUSL2-C and the same thing happens.

I shall never buy D-Link again. Their support has been nothing less than
terrible.

I think, I was able to locate the problem in a conflict between DWL
and Promis UltraDMA controller. I moved my hard drive from the
UltraDMA channel to the standard IDE (replaced the 80 pin cable with
IDE one as well), in BIOS setup disabled loading ATA BIOS, booted and
guess what!? IT IS WORKING!

Hope this will help

I had the same problem on W2K.

The machine would boot, but after 10 seconds on desktop, the whole computer
would freeze.

If I took out my Sound Blaster PCI sound card the pc would work.

Re-arranging my cards in different PCI slots made no difference what so
ever.

My resolution was to download the latest driver from the dlink web site and
guess what ??

It all works fine now with Sound Blaster installed too !
