On the asus deutch ftp server, there is a new bios 1012-4.
No information on changes, I guess it adds only new cpu detection, I noticed
no change in bios setting.

I would guess the PCB BIOS should be shifted to the right over the first row
of ALL ALL
PCB is the Printed Circuit Board rev number of which 1.10 is a legit number.
Common earlier one was 1.04

Hmm. I just installed XP1800+ Palomino to A7A266 v1.03 and
it works great. Bios 1011. Why Asus says that it needs v1.10?

actually that's what it should have looked like. I guess the tabs
didn't work.

i think mine is 1.02 (doesn't even have the jumpers in the blue
rectangularr container)

so this means for me, that I am stuck with 1.4 maximum, right?
and since i already have 1.2 i should totally forget about upgrading
the CPU.

bastards!

so it seems that asus don't know their job?

I've always felt kind of left out with my motherboard.
All the users say it's stable, but I can't help feeling that this
particular chipset was a black sheep. Always have had problems finding
new bioses (german ftp site was always the best source) and as for
IDE/AGP drivers, well... you can try the latest on winXP and you lose
hibernate option

I wonder also why each site (us/german/chinese/tw) offer different
amount of software for the same board.

Also,In the past when I would search for my mobo, i would also get the
bios flash prog and asus probe.

I have the A7A 1.03, (1011 bios) with only the smaller blue box with
four switches. However, I recently upgraded to a 2000+ with no problems
whatsoever, worked the moment I turned on the power. I don't think you'd
really need the blue box, as all the switches need to be in the off
position anyway. Can't say if it'll work on a 1.02 board, but it
wouldn't be because of the absence of switches.

FYI, I soldered a switch onto the pin positions of switch 10 and set it
ON, and the JEN switch is in Jumperless mode, and I can set the
multiplier in BIOS - works like a charm for me.
