Hello'

What is a "U1" message on a Pioneer S104 player. When I put the disc in
the tray I press play and usually the tray will close and play the disc. But,
twice in the last 2 weeks when I've done this U1 appears on the screen and the
disc ejects by it's self. When I close the tray by hitting close, and then hit
play, it works fine.

I don't have a manual for this player. 5 years ago I got it as a used demo
model at Best Buys for a $100.oo Its worked great so far. I know its a bottom
of the line model. with no bells and whistles. I just really like this player
for what I paid for it and I will have it fixed. I just want to know what a
"U1" is??? Thanks, Ultrarobot over and out!

This is a soin up and read error. If the LD is slipping when it initially spins
it will not be turning the proper speed when the pickup is first trying to read it
and you get this error. First thing is to try cleaning the rubber clamp surface
on top of the spindle motor.

I'm not 100% sure, but i think it means "Unknown disc". Your LD can't read
the disc correctly.

U1 is a startup error. It can be the beginning of Spindle motor problems,
Pick-up problems (worn or just dirty) for example. My question is do you have
any trouble ejecting LD's right after you press open while they are playing?
Put in a LD and as soon as it starts playing press Eject. If it delays a long
time after you hear the break release before opening then the LD clamp is just
dirty. A LD slipping in the clamp at startup can cause the U1 error.
