why is it announced in 4:3 full screen ???
Apparently the british zone 2 edition presented the episodes in 16:9
(whereas the french zone 2 also has 4:3) !!

Why, why and why ?????

I thought Angel didn't go widescreen until Season 3.

Angel, season two, was shot in 16:9 for international market released,
but the shots only protected the 4:3 aspect ratio. So 4:3 is the
original aspect ratio. Shots are designed to take advantage of that
aspect ratio. Which is why Joss Whedon & Co. want that version released
in the USA. I think the UK has enough widescreen television in use,
that a widescreen release was needed for that market.

Angel, season three, on the other hand, has a widescreen original aspect
ratio. So those of us who like widescreen display will get what we want
next season.

On tape or DVD?

My assertion is that the Season 2 episodes were originally aired 4:3,
but released on DVD in Region 2 as 16:9 through some silly procedure.

I know the miniseries V was released in Widescreen despite being aired
4:3 back in 1983 -- I have no idea what was up with that.

An answer and a small spoiler for season two's "Darla"

Maybe I can help out here. Season two was not shot to be presented in anything
but 4:3. It's true that the British version is 16:9, and I'll even admit that
I sort of enjoy watching it that way -- in the shots where it works (and it's
only happy chance that it does,) it work real well. But it's wrong I tell ya!
Wrong! For instance, in "Darla" when Darla leaps off the couch to beg Angel to
"turn me back," we pop high and wide and there's a big ol' light stand and
light in the frame. This happens quite a lot on the season two 16:9 DVDs.
Seasons one and two were made before we started framing the show for the 16:9.
We shot full frame and intended the episodes to be viewed that way. And
that's that.
