Shawn and ChudSter, this issue has been encounter many times with Windows XP
if you have the /DEBUG switch enabled in your boot.ini file. Even without
being attached to another system for debugging, if Winodws XP launches with
the /DEBUG switch enabled, it loads into debug mode, and newer games are
being designed to look for this and stop running.

Your boot.ini file can be found on C:\ (if you don't see it there, your
system may be set to hide protected system files, simply change it to show
all files and you'll see the boot.ini)

If you open boot.ini with a text editor like notepad.exe, it should normally
look something like this:

"[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect"

If you see something like this:

"[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect /DEBUG"

That is what is causing your problems. Simply delete the /DEBUG switch and
other switches you find after /fastdetect (though only delete items on the
same line as /fastdetect, don't delete any other lines of text), save the
boot.ini, then reboot the system and you should not receive errors when
trying to run games.

Hope this helps.
