How do I setup the MTU for better perfomance over ADSL connection?
What shouls be the parameters? I think I read that the MTU should be set to

You may need to adjust your RWIN settings. XP by default sets itself to
1500.

You can do that by going to www.dslreports.com and find the Tools section.
There is a tool that will let you do that.

The MTU isn't that important, but the "GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize" setting can make a huge difference.

I was able to boost my throughput by over 100% on my 1024kbps ADSL connection.

I suggest you try TweakMaster:

This is the best advice. You sometimes need to change the PPPoE adapter MTU size, if you are having trouble and there are a couple of good KB articles on that.

The GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize was first defined in Win2K and the default value then was not really good enough for broadband connections. If you save the following as a .reg file and merge it into your registry, you can increase your broadband TCP performance.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

; increase the global TCP receive window size
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters]
"GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize"="65535"

This is the parameter that TweakMaster sets (as a multiple of the TCP Max Segment Size). Simply delete this key to return to the XP default.

Strictly speaking, I can't confirm that this works, since Microsoft hasn't released the TCP/IP Registry reference yet, but it worked in Win2Kpro and I have no reason to think it isn't the same in XP.
