I'm building a system using an 845BG motherboard. It has a header for a
front USB connection which my Antec 1060 case has. I looked up the
pinouts on Intel's web site but it doesn't match the markings on the
leads.

For the data connectors,

Intel uses USB_FT1# and USB_FNT1
Antec uses 1+D and 1-D.

So does # = + or is the other way around?

I had the same problem, trust Intel's pinout. Fortunately on my case each
of the front usb pins were seprate from each other so it was easy to wire as
per Intels spec, if your USB plug is just one plug that is supposed to push
onto the motherboard you will have to extract the pins from the plug and
re-wire using Intels specification.

My case's leads are separate so I can connect them any I need. I just
need to know if FNT1# is the + or the -. I wish these companies would
standardize on a common labeling scheme.

Already had this "problem".
Intel use "#" to indicate an active-low signal. Says so in the front of the D850
manual :-)
So FNT1# would be the "-"

Assuming they haven't changed conventions between the D850 and your board....
