Hi, I built a new workstation with the ABIT NF7-S motherboard and dual 120GB
Seagate SATA Barracuda 7200 RPM HDDs...

I'm using a RAID 1 setup (mirrored drives), and everything works perfectly,
with the exception of an occasional warning message at bootup.

Here's the occasional error/warning message that's issued in the startup
text:

"Incomplete RAID Set!" Press F4 to Enter RAID Configuration Menu

This looks pretty scary, and I rebuilt the RAID 1 set several times with
no problems, but I still occasionally get this warning message at bootup
(about every 10th boot on average).

Has anyone seen this warning/error message with the Silicon Image Sil 3112
SATA RAID Controller on an ABIT NF7-S mobo?

I called ABIT tech support and they guy I talked to had never seen this one
before... ;o\

Thanks in advance,

Sounds like there was a problem during the shutdown and one of the
drives is not an exact copy of the other. As long as the rebuild
works you are fine. As for what is causing the problem, could be a
lot of things but probably data corruption. If you are not using the
latest bios (18) and Silicon Image Raid controller (32) then try
those. If you are using those then look for an option in the bios to
set the discard time - I think they recommend 30 ms but if you have
data corruption, try 100ms.

I was having problem with two 120GB Maxtor SATA drives until I set
that option to 100ms.

Good luck,
Ak

Hi, thanks for the suggestion... this makes a lot of sense that the error
is related to the two drives not matching up on the next boot... the odd
thing is that the error message is displayed only once in a while... and
the system has always worked perfectly...

Hi again, I checked on the driver and BIOS versions on this system:

Sil 3112 SATARaid Controller:
Driver date: 5/9/2003
Version: 1.0.0.32

ABIT NF7-S BIOS version:
nVidia-nForce-6A61BA1BC-18
Flash ROM Type PMC pm49LF004T /5V
BIOS build date: 07/24/2003

Then I changed the EXT-P2P's Discard Time from 30 us to 1ms, per your suggestion
(you meant to write 1ms instead of 100 ms, correct?) The default is 30 us
(micro-seconds)...

Thanks again for the suggestion.

Now we'll see if this warning message pops up again ;o\

Later...
