I've got a problem in which my suspend to RAM feature does not seem to work
on my Asus A7N8X Deluxe with Win XP. Even though the suspend to RAM feature
is enabled in the bios, when I go into standby mode, the power supply fan,
case fans (3), and hard disk all stay on (and my power LED blinks). I can
resume ok and everything works after resuming but it appears that there is
no difference between enabling suspend to RAM (S3) and just plain old
standby mode.

I thought I read somewhere (after I installed Win XP) that you need to turn
on the suspend to ram feature in the bios before installing XP so that the
correct SW gets loaded to enable it to work. Unfortunately, I did not
realize that this feature was turned off by default and I loaded Xp with
suspend to RAM turned off. If this is true, is there any way to get this
feature working short of re-installing XP? Has anybody else seen this
problem and fixed it?

BTW - other than this small issue, this board has been rock solid with not
even 1 lock-up or BSOD in 2 weeks since I've built it. I'm going to have a
hard time going back to a VIA based MB in the future...

There's a command line program called dumppo.exe (try a Google search) that
can reset Windows' idea of what the allowable suspend modes are. However,
the setting change doesn't always persist across reboots (it doesn't for me
on my P4B533).

That is a Microsoft downloadable program for dealing with issues
like this.

all i can see about dumppo, is that it can display all the modes the system
is capeable of...but how do you make it reset the systems idea ?

I can find references to this program, but I can not find anywhere to
download it from.
Searches on Microsoft sites yield nothing about this program.

Can someone point me to this program please?

Thanks,

David

A quick search in google.groups.com gives this as an example.

"First check in the bios to see if they are set to go into S3
standby not S1. If you are set to go into S3 standby and it
still doesn't work you may have some luck by running a utility
called dumppo.

I can't remember where to get it from, try a search on google.

Copy dummpo.exe to windows\system32 and from a command prompt
enter this command:

dumppo ac maxsleep=s3
"

Another post lists "dumppo admin /ac minsleep=s3" as the syntax on
a WinXP system. Maybe "dumppo /?" will list the options ?

Note that the settings for some of the subsystems on the board may
interfere with what you are trying to do in dumppo. Maybe the
WOL on the lan interface or the USB keyboard wakeup settings in the
BIOS might prevent the right thing from happening. Plenty of
room for experimentation!

Have fun,
Paul

Download is here. I don't know if this is the only version or the right

Some explanation is here. It is in French, so use babelfish.altavista.com
if desperate.

Yup - one of those DEFINATELY works - I did it on my A7N8X Deluxe, and STR
works just fine now.

Thanx guys - suspend to RAM is working great now. I used Paul's link to
download dumppo.exe and I used the following command line as recommended by
Nom for Win XP to get it to work:

"dumppo.exe admin /ac minsleep=s3"

Typing in just "dumppo.exe" will list out the cmd line options (albeit
without any explanations)

Best regards,
Tom

I just tried it but didn't get the same results as you did. It seemed to go
into standby just fine (I did it from the WinXP shutdown menu), but when I
pressed the power button to bring it back, while I could hear HDDs spinning
up and such, my LCD monitor remained blank. Since I couldn't see what was
going on, I had to hold the power button for 5 sec and power it down so I
could restart it. I guess it could be the video card (AIW 8500DV).

Drive issue.

What hardware have you got ?

A7N8X Deluxe (Final 1002 BIOS)
400 Watt ANTEC PSU

2 x 256MB Samsung PC2700 (266MHz / 5,2,2,2)
Liteon CD/R-RW
Liteon DVD
Maxtor 30GB 7200 (Programs)
Maxtor 80GB 7200 2MB Cache (Data)
2 x WD Caviar SE 80GB in RAID 0 (Digital Video Editing)
using SIIG Parallel to SATA adapters
Radeon All In Wonder 8500DV (ATI 6.13.10.3286 WHQL)
Envision EN-7100 17" LCD (at 1280 x 1024 / 32bit)
Cannon S520 on Parallel
Visioneer One Touch USB Scanner
Iomega 2GB External Jaz Drive on Firewire
Netgear RP614 Gateway Router (on nVidia NIC)
3-Com Cable Model + 2 remote computers on Router
On-Board Soundstorm
Altec Lansing 4.1 Speaker System

Nothing is overclocked and the system is rock stable. The Power Supply is
plugged in through a commercial PowerVAR power line conditioner as is the
monitor. That's about it ... any ideas?

My previous post should have read "DRIVER issue".

Non of your hardware is weird though, so I dunno. Works fine on mine :D

Unplug all your external stuff, and see if it works then. Try a different
GFX card, and see what happens.
