Is anyone else getting blue screens and reboots during Windows2000's
boot up after installing 4/13/2004's five updates for Windows and
rebooting?

I discarded the new data to revert back to old HDD image to try again
later. Thank you in advance. :)

Yes, I am also getting endless reboots on Windows 2000 under VPC 6.1.1
running on OSX 10.2.8. Hello?! Microsoft?! Does anybody test this
shit?

As reported in an earlier post, I also had this problem.

After going through the Microsoft phone help at (800) 936-4900, I was
directed to reboot OS X. Although neither the woman at Microsoft nor
I had much expectation that this would fix the endless reboot problem
under Windows 2000, it did fix it. So, only time lost. And I have to
say that the customer experience was reasonably good through the phone
technical support.

Thanks Kurt. I will try again later. I find it odd that restarting the
host OS fixes this!

Ant - I was skeptical but it worked for me.

Kurt - your note, following the call to MS Support, saved me a couple
of hours. I wouldn't have even considered calling Microsoft support,
especially because the error I was getting in Win2000 Pro just before
each reboot (about being unable to load winsrv) usually indicates a
registry problem. But I saved the VPC environment (choosing to carry
forward undoable changes) just before the blue screen, rebooted OS X
and everything was fine. The Win 2000 boot process took up where it
left off and went straight to the login screen.

(Previously, I'd discarded undoable changes, restarted the Win2000
environment and reapplied the security patches, but the problem
immediately returned.)

I believe you don't read the read me for updating in VPC 6.1.1
So, it's badly done.
This is a link of the tread (see message 7) and especially from :
" And for VPC 6.1.1, have you read this ?"

http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&th=a344d2ebf8db8526

I believe it's the update which causes this phenomenon.

I did update VPC to v6.1.1 when the W2K image was shut down.

When I get an error in Windows, I go to Microsoft Internet site and
ask for the error exactly and I get replies.
I do the same for your problem. Just have a look on this link:

http://search.microsoft.com/search/results.aspx?st=b&View=en-us&na=82&qu=WINDOWS+2000+SP4+AND+UPDATES+NOT+INSTALLING

I've solved many errors by doing like that.
Windows gets bugs also and Microsoft support in line is there to solve
them.

The error isn't specific since it is the "failed to install" message.
Other things I noticed: I do see an empty
c:\WUTemp\com_microsoft.Q837009_OE6_SP1\ folder/directory. I already
tried clearing Windows' temp folders (local and global). Anywhere else
to check for logs, corrupted EXE file, etc.?

Thanks for the Saint Ex's quotation, a great french writer. I'dont
agree with his opinion about the US people. A lot of French people
have Celtic origins, and a lot get Irish or British blood.
Was my link helpfull for you ?
Ask microsoft another time for check logs, corrupted exe file.
Do you use scandisk (asking repair for the files possibly damaged) and
do you do maintenance. I do each month.

I use also EasyCleaner for the registry and unnecessary files only.
Don't use the other possibilities. My brother in law who don't know
this program, 1.5Go free disk space in last Christmas.
Here is the link:

If you get figures for W 2000 just like me for W 98 SE, it's
completely out of danger for your OS and VPC. And very usefull for it.
