I'm trying to remove an annoying link to IBM in the right
hand side of the start panel (just below the "Run" link).

In the registry under

/HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/Explorer/St
art Menu/Start Panel/ShowOEMLink

is there a key I can add to remove (not show) this link?

Thank you.

Delete HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f6-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0} and the feature is removed (not hidden).

That key you list is info that the options dialog is built from. So you could go to SM options and hide the oem link by clicking the box. The key is given under that key

The HKEY_Root value means Current User so HKEYRoot & RegPath = HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

the value name is Start_ShowOEMLink and 0 to hide and 1 to show.

Hi Robert,

In addition to David's advice, you can replace that link/space with any
other website or favorite folder if you like.

Add a Folder Under the Run Command (Line 180)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

You can also clean up other areas of OEM branding, in IE: Help/On
line Support under Search (Provided By...) and under System Properties.

I can't get that to work here.
It appears to have created the registry entries ok, but nothing appears on
the Start Menu. (I did log off/on, and also tried a re-boot).

Hi Ted,

Right click the Start button/Properties/Customize/Advanced and place a check
in the box that reads Manufacturer Link.

There is no such box on my "Start button/Properties/Customize/Advanced"
Perhaps it only appears on OEM installations?

It's not important, I just wondered why it did not work.
Thanks anyway.

Ted.

No, not just for OEM's. Download the script again, don't use the one you
have. Run the edit, then crash Explorer.exe. This has been tested on many
systems and the edit does work.

BTW, you can also control the icon being used, whether it is a folder or a
website.
