Last I heard, Chris Lawrence <mus...@islandnet.com> was saying:

>hey, what's the deal w/ made in usa? it was never released back
>in '86 to coincide w/ the movie, right? they just took the masters
>and released them in '95 for the hell of it? anyone know exactly
>why the decided to release it so many years after the fact, and
>on an indie label like rhino?

I'm pretty sure I read about this a while ago, but I forget all the
details. I'm guessing that the songs just got honestly forgottten,
and then one day they came back across them and figured they'd release
it.

I had that for a brief period, but it didn't really impress me. I
liked the fact that there was a song called "Mackin' For A Doober"
(which later inspired the naming of one of my friends' cars The Doober
[and after that one died came The Doober Jr.]).

Was, "O.J.'s grove or what," an amendment to, "Made in U.S.A.?
Or is a truly strange coincedence?

No, I *think* it was released on Vinyl back when the movie came out, but
the added more songs on for 95 reissue (Hence O.J.'s Glove). As for
Rhino, all I know is Rhino has a reputation for rereleasing lots of long
forgotten stuff, maybe DGC just didn't want to do it. Maybe in another
8 years, we'll see the release of the musical score to Suburbia.

I think it's called `O.J's glove or what?`
..*.. and I'm pretty sure that it came out after all (or about about
the same time) that O.J simp
turbulence..

I guess it's like this, SY don't have a say in what gets released
with something like that because they don't own the rights to the
songs. Rhino probably released it as and when they did because
they felt it was a good time to cash in on all us dumbasses
who will buy any SY, even if it is a relatively poor release.
When SY were told it was being reissued they thought what the
hell, and gave all the songs names, and Thurston wrote in the sleeve.

"O.J.'s *Glove* Or What". And yes, it was titled after the incident.

I think it sounds exactly like what it is: commissioned background music
for a movie. The "songs" aren't very interesting to listen to in
themselves but I can imagine how they'd be effective mood-setters for a
film. It might mean more to me if I'd actually seen "Made in USA." Has
anyone seen this? What do you think?

i haven't seen the movie, but i think the soundtrack is pretty cool if
i'm in the right mood. its hard for me to listen striaght through, but
different songs really appeal to me, and they make good mix tape
filler... the only things that really bother me are that the songs are
too short, and too many sound alike. but, i guess that's what you get
when you buy a soundtrack with the score on it. i really like tuck n dar.
its a cool song.

before i knew that the songs were titled after the OJ melodrama, i was
quite confused. i wondered whether it was a VERY strange coincedence or a
show of sonic youth's prophetic powers...

Rhino's owned by Warner. They are manufactured and distributed by WEA
(Warner/Elektra/Atlantic).

I don't have the cd anymore (it melted!) but while I had it I thought
it had some really great songs on it.. I sometimes don't feel like
hearing any singing or words at times and this was a great album to
listen to when that mood sprang up. On the whole I'd probably skip
about 5 or 6 songs every listen, but I really enjoyed the ones I did
listen to. Your right Chris, this is the sort of music you listen to
by yourself with the steereo cranked up a little, because if you don't
have it loud you miss half of the interesting stuff.. I really like
the reverb on these songs too. Thier amps sound like Peaveys to me.
Peaveys give that really unique sorta reverb you can tell a mile away.
My favourite song on the album has to be about the 3rd or 4th last
song (cant memba the name), its just an accoustic track and it sounds
like the sort of thingJohn Denver could sing over! Really simple, but
great in my books. So on the whole it's a bit of a mixed bag, but the
tracks I like I really like.. like like la like like like. DONK!

I have seen it and its a terrible movie, it fits into my catagory
of "Movies i waited a long time to see and was really dissappointed by".
