When I follow the usual procedure, I get an error message that says "System
restore encountered an error trying to enable/disable one or more drives.
Please restart your machine and try again." I've done that several times
and still get the same error message. Any suggestions?

Paul, Thank you for the suggestions. I think I have a nasty problem - when I check System Restore in Control Panel per the troubleshooting article, I find that it says that System Restore is "stopped." When I click Start, the service status says "started" for a few seconds, then it reverts to "stopped." In addition, when I try to launch System Restore, I get a message that says "System Restore is not able to protect your computer. Please restart your computer and then run System Restore again." I got this same message when I attempted to run System Restore in safe mode. In addition, there are times when I right click "My Computer" and select Properties and there is no tab for System Restore. This is intermittent. Any help would be appreciated.

Dear Poster.

It sounds like you have checked the obvious. Check these three things:

1. Do you have enough drvice space available on all drives that System
Restore is enabled on?

2. Are you logging in as Administrator?

3. Check the event logs to investigate System Restore service errors:

- Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click
"Performance and Maintenance".
- Click Administrative Tools, click Computer Management,
double-click Event Viewer, and then click System.
- Click the Source tab to sort by name, and then look for "sr" or
"srservice."
Double-click each of these services, and then evaluate the event
description
for any indication of the cause of the problem.
