The Asus Digital VCR software on the CD is v1.62
I downloaded v2 for the above and the bloody thing
hardly works. I kept on getting so many errors that I gave up
in the end. It has Mpeg 1 and 2 compression but the whole thing
is very unstable I ended up uninstalling it and going back
to v1.62
I noticed on the Asus page that this software was last updated on Feb
2 of this year. That's 9 months ago.
With the newer V8200 cards, does this mean Asus won't bother fixing
the bugs or bring out a newer version?
Currently I'm using a freeware avi to mpeg util that I downloaded
from:
http://www.mnsi.net/~jschlic1/
It's a bloody slow process.
I'm using WinMe on a Pentium IV 1.5Ghz, with 512 DDR RAM,
40Gb Seagate Barracuda IV ATA/100 7200rpm drive.
Motherboard is the Asus P4T i850 chipset board.
I've been playing around with the WinMe capture software and although
it's better than the Asus software it can only be played on people's
pc's if they have WinMe and higher or Win player 7 or higher.
The screen shot capture I've done have been quite dreadful.
The v2 Digital VCR software was a bit better but no where good enough
for my liking.
Just wondering how they ever get passed for sale as the quality is
very shoddy for screen captures. The AVI quality for capturing movies
is very good though.
I have yet to see a good quality video capture device that takes great
screen captures as well as great video captures.
I live down under in Australia so it's setup in PAL BG format.
Is there any software I can get that give good video capture in Mpeg
format and also has the ability to do good screen captures.
Thanks in advance.
You may want to check it out.
I'm using the 14.62 driver myself with no ill effects.

Man, it's about time!
I have an Asus V6800 Deluxe and had to get the following drivers and now I
have full capture capabilities in WinXP (30 fps at 720x480 or 640x480 with
either MPEG-2 or MJPEG). No white box, and the aspect ratio of the final
file is correct if you choose to capture in 640x480 ... in other words,
there won't be any black bars on the top and bottom of the video. It's
PERFECT. I just captured a 30 minute video from TV at 640x480 using Asus
Digital VCR 2 (wonder program, btw) using constant 3000 bitrate and the
results are fantastic. The file is 750MB in size.
The Constant Quality (CQ) setting was too much for my Celeron 550 system for
MPEG-2 capture, but Constant BitRate (CBR) mode was no problem at all ... no
dropped frames whatsoever. I can also capture using an MJPEG codec such as
PICVideo in virtualdub at 720x480 30fps with 0 dropped frames. I suddenly
prefer to MPEG-2 compression, however. File sizes are smaller and the
quality seems better than MJPEG.
To top it all of, I finally have stereoscopic support in WinXP! Yeah!!!
Just played Porsche unleased for half an hour an no eye strain. The drivers
are actually better than they were in WinME when I still had it installed.
WinME would only allow me to play at 144 Hz (72x2) with my monitor at
800x600. The new drivers allow for 150 Hz (75x2) at 800x600. 150 Hz is the
highest the 3d glasses support, by the way.
The Asus 14.62 drivers are at

Asus Digital VCR 2 (which includes Asus WDM capture drivers):

Have fun.

And, as always, back up your system b-4 installing.
Hope you're up on your German...
(the driver install is in English however)

I've downloaded and may try it out.
First I'll backup my system files incase it doesn't like it and then
uninstall the current software then I'll give it a whirl.
Thanksfor the reply.
