What poor bitter Elflet is speaking of here is that I quit smoking
ciggies about two weeks ago and have been reading and writing to
alt.support.stop-smoking for the same amount of time. Yesterday
someone in AS3 started a thread that was woefully ignorant on matters
herpes. The comments were along the lines that HSV1 is not an STD and
that HSV1 is above the waist and HSV2 below. I undertook briefly to
set the record straight, and recommended that if they wished to know

I can't make allowances for your own fear and paranoia. The several
people that have posted to the thread (and there are two new questions
waiting for me there now) have mostly expressed feelings that the
stigma of herpes has lessened greatly with recent rise in awareness of
STDs in general and things like AIDS specifically. I certainly don't
want to contribute to the stigma and feel that the best course is with
ACCURATE information. If I can raise awareness about the disease and
save someone the distress that most of us have felt, then I'll be
happy and feel I've done the right thing.
Ah, I see now that one of the original people in the other group has
done her own research on herpes and has posted her findings, verifying
my comments there.

Totally on topic......
I came here in terrible need of support over one year ago. I was very
vulnerable. I was honest about all my struggles with HSV and hoped that being
so could help someone else too while I learned, baring my soul all along the
way. I did so too much to the point where it was pretty obvious to anyone
looking on that I was alone with my son and felt tainted by my virus. Well, I
wasn't the victim some might have hoped me to be....I hope that no one coming
here ever thinks that because they have Herpes that they have to settle for
less than they deserve, in that hooking up with someone that claims to have it
also gives them a safeharbor from the possible rejection of telling. I have
"told" and faced rejection only once, with even him coming back some time later
to persue me...at which point I was no longer interested after being hurt by
him. Always believe in yourself and don't let anyone kick you and bring you
down. You are the same wonderful person herpes or no! It is on topic
completely that this is a great place to find people who are in crisis in many
different ways with their many times uneducated revelation of carrying herpes
and the ways they THINK this will effect their lives, and in their fear and
innocence of the net they bare their a**es, like me. It will not if you don't
allow it too. It is just a bug, like a spider in your basement......Squish
that and make sure to put down repelant for all the rest:-)
