If I leave an instance of Windows Explorer running for any period of
time and come back to it, I get an error dialog box when I try to
access any file or directory:

"C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Desktop\desktop\[]\(any
file/directory I happen to click on) is not accessible. The filename,
directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect".

It seems that explorer replaces the current directory drive letter
with "C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Desktop\desktop\[]". The
created
folder name has an imbedded control character displayed as a square
symbol. This is an invalid path and results in the access violation.
Explorer must be terminated at this point. Any fixes?

I have done extensive searches both on Google and MSDN without
success. I have found a few other posts on Google that appear to have
had the same problem as I, yet without resolution.

I suspect "Command Prompt Here" or other Explorer shell enhancements,
but even after removal, the condition persists. Unless it did not
uninstall cleanly.

Please advise. Thank you.

I've even tried re-installing service packs, etc. Didn't work.
