I'm running a 1900+ on a KT3 Ultra-ARU (MS-6380E) and would like to go for the 2800+ or 3000+.  The new BIOS v5.7 states: "Supports AMD Barton XP3000+ (FSB333) CPU (For KT3 Ultra2 Only)".
What is the difference between my KT3 Ultra and the KT3 Ultra2?  I see I have the adjustment to go to 166 in the BIOS, so has anybody else tried this and have it work?

Running a 2600+ at 133 wouldn't be so bad but if it will work the 2800+/3000+  at 166 would be really cool.

Thanks,

only real diff between KT3 Ultra and the KT3 Ultra2 is a newer south bridge
that has usb 2.0 built in instead of a external nec usb controler plus it
has a FSB_sense pin that automaticly set's the fsb to 166/333 if using a
166/333 fsb cpu, Both boards have a 1/5 devider and will work with the 3000+
barton at 166/333 just that on the KT3 Ultra you have to go into the bios
and manualy set the fsb up to 166 make sure if your running at 133 that you
dissable hostclk+33 first then save and restart then go back into the bios
and up the fsb to 166 (should point out that you should have min ddr 2700
for 166/333fsb) and you should be all set. If you find it unstable go back
into the bios and there's a seting in there for the ram (sorry can't remmber
what its called at the moment) that has options like normal/fast/ultra and
set it to normal the only reason that msi dosn't give the KT3 Ultra/aru
boards offical 166/333fsb on there web site is because you have to manualy
up the fsb witch i don't see what the problem is because you had to do that
anyways with the 133 fsb :) best of luck and sorry my typing kinda sucks

Thanks for the info. I was hoping it was something like that. Now all I
have to do is fine a Athlon XP 3000+.

There are a number of posts from folks that have successfully put the 166MHz FSB XPs in their KT3 Ultras. I just swapped boards today and will probably do the chip upgrade in the next few months. Supposedly they are real screamers, though the stats give the lead to nForce2.

I hope that the previous post is correct. I don't see any reason that this board wouldn't do 166MHz, since it's a) stated on the VIA site that it will, b) you can adjust to it in the BIOS, and c) the jumper settings are screened on the board.

I was running the KT3 Ultra ARU with 5.6 bios with a 2700+ with no
problems. I upgraded to 5.7 bios and all is still perfect here.

The Ultra ARU will support all CPU's that the Ultra 2 will support. It
uses the same chipset KT333.
