10.1.1.1 Introduction
First, I tried to set up a HEADING STYLE with auto-outline
numbering and have found that only the numbers conform to
the Formatting Style - not the title text.
Then I tried to do my auto numbering first, then go back
and apply the appropriate Heading Style to each heading.
When I do is, it removes my auto numbering all together.
1. Format | Style and select Heading 1. Press the Modify... button
2. Format: Numbering.
3. In the Bullets and Numbering dialog, select Outline Numbered.
4. On the Outline Numbered tab, click on the pane that shows 1. Heading 1,
1.1. Heading 2, etc. (It should be the second from the left on the bottom
row; if that's not what you see, click that pane anyway and press the Reset
button.) Press Customize...
5. In the Customize Outline Numbered List dialog, Level 1 should be selected
on the left. Set up the numbering style and indents you want for Heading 1.
6. Press the More... button to expand the dialog.
7. Make sure that Heading 1 is selected in the "Link level to" box.
8. Without leaving the dialog, select Level 2 on the left, set the numbering
and indents you want for Heading 2 and make sure it is selected under "Link
level to."
9. Make sure that you have checked "Restart numbering after higher level."
10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 for Level 3 and Heading 3. Only when you have
completed defining the numbering and indents for all heading levels should
you leave the dialog.
