Hi. I am meeting Japanese girl in States tomorrow. She is from Osaka, and is
here on a short visit. We are going on kind of blind date. She is so pretty.
I think Osakan girls are most beautiful of all Japanese. Well, I have
learned some basic phrases to talk in Japanese (she speaks almost zero
English). Maybe I get lucky? I don't anticipate, but just in case, I want to
be prepared.

My phrase books do not cover "popping the question" so I tried AltaVista.
Here are my results....

[#1 try]
Do you want to have sex?
あなたは性を有したいか.

Would you like to possess characteristic?

I don't know about that. Maybe she thinks I'm asking if she is possessed??

[#2 try]

Do you want to fool around?

あなたはだましたいか.

Your skin increase you want?

That won't work either.

[#3 try]

Do you want to make love?

あなたは愛を作りたいか.

Do you want to make love?

Perfect translation!!

Is this the one to use? If so, can someone be so kind as to translate into
romanji for me? Depending on situation, it might be better to say rather
than handing her a note, don't you think?

Thank you

あなたに感謝しなさい。

Appreciate in you.

Even though she doesn't speak English to you, don't ever speak Japanese
to her. Especially those Japanese phrases you posted, they are out of
question.

Thank you for advise. But what would you suggest? I don't want to come on
too strong. I am shy guy usually. But she will not be here too long, so I
don't want to miss opportunity. Thanks again.

Just be yourself. Give her a lot of choices about anything (multiple
choice suggestions). Use simple English. Don't use cool slangs until
she learns them. Write the words down or draw pictures when you get
stuck with conversation. She will probably be better at reading the
words than listening to a native English speaker in the beginning.

There are books for this sort of thing too. Just in case you're bent
on getting yourself in trouble.

Give other girls a chance. I don't know what ethnicity you are, but also
give a girl a chance in your own ethnicity. Japanese girls are the same as
others. I am of Japanese ethnicity. So give other girls a chance also.

Peace.

Well, if everybody stuck to their own ethnicity, I would not exist.
Fortunately, my grandparents (all 4 of them) found true love outside their
cultures. Of course, they had difficult time with their families, but stay
with feeling in their hearts. Now I am made up of 4 different ethnicities,
and have friends of all ethnicities and races. And as for dating, I do "give
other girls a chance." If a guy and girl share attraction and interest, then
it don't matter what is their ethnicity. The one girl I asked about is
Japanese, and very beautiful. And I find she is very polite person, which is
not because Japanese, but because she is who she is. However, I notice
higher percentage of Japanese seem polite. My last girlfriend was an
Italian. She had big mouth and big butt. Not so polite, and eats like pig.
And not same for all Italians either. But again, just higher percentage.

Thank you.

It's in Japanese culture not to stick out in a crowd, cause the nail that
sticks out gets hammered. Yes, they are generally more polite. To a point
that they don't like to say "no" to you in general. If the girl didn't say
yes, or didn't respond to your question, it's a no by default. But then you
should be careful not to be too forthcoming in your questions to avoid
conflict.

As to your chance of success, if you look anything close like a Caucasian,
you'll score no doubt.
