Invader Zim to be released on DVD - genuinely

New York City (November 06, 2003) - AnimeWorks is ready to rain down
Zim's doom upon the heads of animation fans everywhere with its release of
Jhonen Vasquez's Invader Zim. Anime fans have been screaming for this DVD
release since Zim first aired on Nickelodeon in 2001 and now it's finally
here. Coming Spring 2004 will be the first of three double disc sets and a
limited edition boxed set which promises to send fans' blood racing through
their veins like giant radioactive rubber pants. The pants command them!
Invader Zim currently airs on Nicktoons, Nickelodeon's digital home for
animated
hits.
"We at Media Blasters are thrilled to add Invader Zim to our powerful
line-up, and expect it to be one of our flagship titles in 2004," said
John Sirabella, CEO of Media Blasters. "Zim has created quite a fan buzz in
the anime community and we know that it will be a huge sensation!"
From the inventive mind of comic book creator Jhonen Vasquez, and
co-executive produced by animation veteran Mary Harrington, Invader
Zim focuses on a paranoid alien named Zim from planet Irk who believes he is
at the forefront of a sinister plan of galactic conquest. Jhonen Vasquez is
famous for such fan favorite comics as Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, SQUEE!,
and I Feel Sick.
AnimeWorks is a division of Media Blasters. INVADER ZIM will be
released in early Spring of 2004.

Obviously, we all know that "ZIM" can't possibly be anime, because it
features that most non-Japanese of ungulates, the moose. Anime titles
have featured pigs, hamsters, squid and cows, but I can't think of a
single instance of a moose. Take that, rest of the world! --North
America has moose, and YOU DON'T! Mwa-hahaha-ha!

If Nickelodeon were releasing this in-house via Paramount, I'd agree, but
since this is AnimeWorks, I bet they make every effort to release the
original. Still, you might want to e-mail them to make sure they know the
difference. As it is, this is the first I've heard of it.

I'm as surprised as anyone to hear about the show getting an actual
release, and even more surprised that it would be through a place
better known for anime. I'm on the ZIM-is-not-anime team, by the way,
what with me being a Mexican guy who didn't set out to make anything
Japanesey.
On the subject off unaltered episodes being seen instead of altered
ones, I hope you will all contact the people behind the dvd's and
scream at them to use the original version of the Christmas episode
(the most horrible christmas ever), and not the screwy edited version
that was shown on the telly. The altered version changed some voices,
killed some pretty cool okes, and added "nice" music where there was
supposed to be some ridiculous metal guitars over ZIM talking like a
pro-wrestler. This was done by trained professionals who were not me.
You guys are the fans, and you should see the version I wanted you to
get in the first place, not one changed to make "more sense" to you.
The changes in Door to Door weren't all that severe, and actually
resulted in a far more unpleasant looking scene what with the guy
being hooked by one of those guards.
Christmas is the one you've gotta make some noise about.

AnimeWorks may be known for anime, but it's parent company, Media Blasters,
has branched out into Japanese action and horror, Italian horror, and
(quietly) soft-core porn. So, there you go.

Well, it's still much better than the quasi-retro style of Kricfalusi,
Eastern Europeon a la Tartakovsky, or the butt-ugliness of
"Crappy/Kstupid".

I hope it's not too late to influence them. If the first set is due next
Spring, chances are they may be starting to convert them to code any
time now, and once that's done, that's done.
Oh good god, please don't force me to end up buying TWO versions of the
complete set, like New Line does with LoTR.

Yes true. Both the "New York In Ruins" version and the "Ogres Tossing
Victims Into Cages" version are equally funny, IMO.

As a PS to my earlier post, I noticed that the redone DtD has a "hiccup"
in the animation (as the VR helmets on the weiner-gobbling kids are
activated, twice). Was this a glitch in the Matrix and Agents were
nearby? <g>

There were a few definite cuts in the Christmas episode that pissed me
off. For instance, during the big Zim-Dib battle, there was a big
chunk o' stuff that was gonna fall on some guy that they cut. Weird,
because the SAME thing happened in Hamstergeddon only they didn't cut
that.

I'm currently watching my sister watch this week's episode of
"Friends", specifically the scene in which Joey screens the tape of
his Japanese TV ad for "Ichiban - Lipstick for Men". How's that for
coincidence?

I've seen only a few minutes of "The Most Horrible Christmas Ever", a
clip introduced as: "Christmas. Nuremburg. 1938," by a panelist at the
"SF Cartoons and Why We Love Them" panel at Philcon 2002. But it was
a very *good* few minutes...

"More sense"? Why am I not surprised that the execs managed to
*completely* miss the point of the series? If we wanted "sense", we'd
