well i just sent an email to the allentown county fair to see if they
would give me any more spoilers. he just said Al will be on TRL today
or tomorrow. so i turn it on and literally at that second, John Norris
is talking about Al's career and Eat It is on the screen.
he announces that the first single is a parody of Eminem and its
called "Couch Potato" then he plays a few seconds of it over the
Eminem video because apparently Eminem wouldn't let him make a video
out of it.
first of all, al's voice is dead on as Eminem. i actually thought it
was eminem for a second. i didnt catch all the lyrics but there were a
couple "yo"s and some mention of "fred and wilma" and says something
about how everything on tv was crap. it seemed like an updated version
of I Cant Watch This, but thats from 10 seconds of listening.
looks like this validates the old list from kazaa.
interestingly, john norris specifically mentioned that prince never
lets al parody him. then it goes on to talk about J Lo and another
story.
i think we can assume that the kazaa tracklisting is right.
in that case, i'd also assume that Hardware Store is a parody of Hot
In Herre and A Complicated Song is a parody of Complicated by Avril
Lavigne. Im gonna speculate that Wanna B Ur Lovr is a prince parody
(due to bermuda lead-ons and john norris's comment) and that Ebay is a
parody of something else (because i mean, why would there be an
original called Ebay?).
this means obviously Angry White Boy Polka is the polka leaving...
Party At The Leper Colony, Ode to a Superhero, Genius in France, Bob,
Why Does This Always Happen To Me, and Trash Day as the originals.
anyone agree or would beg to differ?
-jon

PS im guessing Hardware Store as the second single.

I've said it before, but maybe Ebay is a parody of "The Last DJ" by Tom
Petty & the Heartbreakers.

WHEN do they rerun it? It's not listed again on tvguide.com.

This Coach Potato thing is stupid. It's nothing more than I Can't Watch This
II. How sad and disturbing to see Al continue to recycle old themes instead of
thinking up something new. What a letdown. I hope the rest of the album is
better.

I'm confused why Al would do a Prince parody now. Prince hasn't had a hit in 9
years. And why would Prince suddenly change his mind about allowing Al to
parody him? Maybe it's a style parody instead...

Well, this isnt really a spoiler. I checked tvguide.com and it wasnt
listed, so I asked my friend again and she said that only on certain
days of the week they rerun it at like midnight or something and that
today must be one of the days that they don't rerun it. *hits friend

I'll wait to hear the remaining 3 minutes 27 seconds of the song until I
make a final judgment on whether or not the song is stupid.

Well, it's certainly not gonna be a parody of The Logical Song by
Supertramp, IMHO.

And that won't be a parody of Be My Lover by Alice, IMHO (but I could be
mistaken).

Yo....folks. Al has ALWAYS sung about TV. Heck, they
released a whole compilation Album of his TV songs. I
think it'll be awesome, it's about time for another Al-TV
Update.

Cut Mr. Yankovic some respect, man, you haven't even
heard the tune yet.

I do suppose that I Can't Watch This could easily be compared to Cable TV.
And then Syndicated Inc.... whew. Good point.

And speaking of Al-TV, that reminds me once again that I keep forgetting to
get in on tape trading. :)

the title of a new song ; )

Couch Potato...Couch Potato...

Hehehe! The title alone is making me laugh. Can't wait to hear the song : )

um... no "Jerry Springer" was about Jerry Springer, and trash talk
shows in general. there is mounds and mounds of garbage on TV that
Couch Potato may deal with that has nothing to do with Jerry and trash
talk shows. it's like saying that Spam and Eat It are about the same
thing, they're not. one is about food and eating, the other is about
eating a *specific* food.

But those songs are pro-TV, and they aren't rap. Besides, Cable TV was
pretty much Al's first general TV song (as opposed to "Ricky," "The Brady
Bunch," and "I Lost On Jeopardy," which were about specific shows), and
"Syndicated Inc." was pretty weak as far as Al goes.

Yeah but Jerry Springer was also about someone sitting on a couch
watching a TV show that they know is horrible, but can't stop
watching.....which sounds exactly like the reports say Couch Potato is
about.

By this argument, most creators have only written one song. Andrew W.K.
just keeps writging the same song about partying, Rage Against the Machine
just keeps putting out the same song about not trusting the gonvernment, and
Rob Zombie...okay, never mind that one...
