I have upgraded a user from excel 2000 to 2002. Excel
2000 had an equal sign button on the function bar that
opened a window that showed the function result and
allowed you to manually type in an expression. Excel 2002
has replaced the equal sign button with a function button
that opens up a function dialog box. Is it possible to
revert to the old way and have the equal sign button
instead of the function button. The user will not accept
any work-arounds, such as adding an equals button to one
of the toolbars. Thank you

Maybe this will be sufficient:

Tools|Customize|Commands Tab|Insert Category

Grab the = (equal sign) and plop it down on your toolbar that's directly above
the formula bar. Put it as close as you want.

Uh, Dave, if you upgraded to Netscape 7.0, maybe you'd be able to read
all the way to the end of the original message:

I don't answer questions that are asked. I answer the questions the way I
(mis)read them!

Sorry, I don't think that there's a way that will make that user happy.

Hi Jon,

I guess I do not understand the customer's issue. The Function button that
replaced the equals sign button, adds functionality and makes it easier to
locate functions, once the function is selected it returns to the behavior
of old.

Is there a particular reason that the user does not like this new button or
am I missing something?

Regards,
Mike Sampson

The user prefers to type in expressions manually, only
occasionally using the built-in functions. He would click
on the equals button and start typing the expression,
clicking on any cells used in the expression. Since he has
been doing it this way for several years, he has gotten
used to the equals button being there and this change,
however small, keeps throwing him off when he has to
quickly generate numbers from large amounts of data.

Hi Jon,

Thank you for clarifying the issue the customer has with the new function
button. Unfortunately, the only thing I can offer since adding the Equals
button to another toolbar is unacceptable is to say that I have documented
the feedback and passed it on for you and your customer.

If there is anything else I can do, please let me know.

Regards,
Mike Sampson
