Salam,

FYI, I have created Quran translation file in Malaysian language (or known as Bahasa Melayu) and have been using it personally since last year. Is it possible to share it with other Zekr user because I don’t know legal issue about it? Actually, I have extracted all the translation from the following website:

Al-Islam - Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Da‘wah and Guidance
http://quran.al-islam.com/Targama/DispTargam.asp?nType=1&nSora=1&nAya=1&nSeg=1&l=eng&t=mal

The website’s copyright notice stated “All rights reserved for the Ministry unless used for research or da‘wah purposes”.. So, I am assuming (am I correct?) that we can use it in Zekr without any problem and just mention the copyright notice on property file like: copyright=Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Da‘wah and Guidance, taken from http://quran.al-islam.com

Please advise regarding this matter. Thanks.

Salaam,

Sorry for the late reply and thanks for preparing the translation. Is this website the original publisher of this translation, or it just provides the digital copy? Can you please also provide author name (and possibly an online bio)?

Thanks,
Mohsen.

Salam,
thanks for your reply,

I dont sure about the original publisher of this translation because there are no details info about it... but i believe the website is developed by Harf Information Technology (as shown at the bottom of the website). Maybe the content is from that company (http://www.harf.com/). What do you think about it?

Salam,

I believe the translation is by the late Sheikh Abdullah Basmeih bin
Sheikh Muhammad Basmeih. His biography can be found here

http://disertasi.blogspot.com/2007/06/tafsir-pimpinan-al-rahman-oleh-syeikh.html

The translation is called Tafsir Pimpinan al-Rahman Kepada Pengertian
al-Qur’an and is published by Darulfikir http://www.darulfikir.com.my
for JAKIM http://www.islam.gov.my , Department of Islamic Development
Malaysia.

I do not know who holds the rights for the translation now, I just
wanted to inform who the author was (may Allah be pleased with him)

Anwar

Salam,

After I compared it with printed copy of Tafsir Pimpinan Ar-Rahman by Darufikir, i do realized that it is the same translation. So, the original author can be changed from unknown to “Sheikh Abdullah Basmeih bin Sheikh Muhammad Basmeih”.

Back to square one, is it legal to use it?

Anyway, thanks for your information.
Azmirul

Salaam,

There are some contact info in the links mentioned. Can you please contact them and ask if they hold the right to use it, and is it OK to use it in Zekr. I'll remove the translation until it's legal info is more clarified.

Mohsen.

Wa Alaikumassalaam,

No, it's legal issues is still unknown, but our translation provision policy is made more pessimistic:

Salam,

ok, thank you for your clarification..

so, since the translation is published again on Zekr/Tanzil, i am assuming that even the legal issue is still unknown, hopefully the following notes is sufficient to give explanation of its source (thanks for adding it to wiki) :

http://zekr.org/wiki/License_of_translations#Bahasa_Malaysia
quote: "This translation is taken from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Da‘wah and Guidance (quran.al-islam.com). The website states: All rights reserved for the Ministry unless used for research or da‘wah purposes."

http://zekr.org/wiki/License_of_translations
quote: "If you are the author (or license holder) of any of them, and you object the use (mirroring) of that translation in our website and software, please inform us to remove that translation from the website."

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Regards,
Azmirul.
