I. Attend an Organizing
For American House Party
As the battle over Obama's economic stimulus package
heats up in the Senate the new grassroots group formed out of the
movement to elect Obama, Organizing for America, is holding house
meetings across the country organize support for the American Recovery
and Reinvestment Plan.
Find out
how you can host one or find one in your area.
II. In the News: How
Racism Sparked Capitalism's Financial Crisis
by
Joe Sims
As Congress debates an economic recovery package, it is
important to keep in mind how the country got into this mess in the
first place: the racially motivated lending practices of Wall Street
banks and mortgage companies that targeted Black and Latino families
with unfair and discriminatory loans.
Discussion Questions:
1. What do you think the author is suggesting when he
concludes that "the solution to the problem may well continue to lie in
the repayment in full of a centuries-old debt"?
2. What are your thoughts on Obama's proposed $900
billion economic recovery package? How do you feel about the recently
added tax break for homebuyers?
3. Do you agree with the article's argument that there
is an intentionally racist origin to the subprime mortgage crisis?
III. Mass Action: Two
Million Signatures for EFCA by Feb. 16th
No matter how you cut it, it's just not right. America's
workers are putting in more hours than ever and still struggling to
make ends meet. Meanwhile, the CEO's of large U.S. companies averaged
$10.8 million in compensation in 2006, more than 364 times the pay of
the average worker, according to the latest survery by the group United
for a Fair Economy.
The Employee Free Choice Act can help reclaim the
American Dream by restoring workers' freedom to form unions and bargain
for a better life.
Sign
the EFCA Petition and help send 2 million signatures to urge
Congress to pass this bill.

V. Studying the Classics
in LA County
Young Communist League Club leader Gaby Castillo is
working with the Communst Party of Southern California district
organizer Rossana Cambron to develop a joint CP/YCL book club. The
first book was The Fundamentals of Marxism-Leninism. Each
session is lead by a different facilitator and is held informally.
"Learning and developing our understanding of Marxism-Leninism has been
the best, for us, when we work in a group," says Gaby. Live in LA area
and want to get involved? Email Gaby at gckas...@yahoo.com
