Dr Venkataraman Balaji, Director of Technology and Knowledge management at COL has been leading the development of innovative but relevant technology solutions for reaching the unreached.

In short, the classroom without walls / Aptus provides a low cost server and local wireless hub for mobile devices to bring rich learning content to remote learners who may not have reliable or affordable internet connectivity.  This has huge potential and real opportunities for leveraging digital OER in widening access to educational opportunity for all. The technology is entirely open source.

COL has posted a call for field trial ideas -- Please distribute the request to your local tech people.

Projects like this can make a significant contribution in building an open ecosystem for mainstreaming open education approaches worldwide.

Hmmm.....I'm interested.  Sounds like it would work in remote field sites?  I wonder if it's something a person with basic tech skills could run?  I certainly have an application that would impact several educators....I'll fill it in!

Hi All,

I went to the site, read it, and had no idea what it all means - can someone explain it succinctly (er, sum it up) in 1 or 2 sentences please?

- Randy

Hi WikiRandy,

What it all means is availability of low cost technology that needs field testing on the learners. Identifying learners who are deprived of technology but willing to learn and providing them OERs for enhancing their knowledge level. Are you for giving a try?

Bye

Hi Pankaj,

Nice to receive your note - thanks. <smile>

Sounds noble and workable all at once - scalable too!

I am not a technologist, but my institution is located in a remote place, how do we benefit from this?
