Hi All,

PortlandWiki is Portland's up-and-coming city wiki! (Think "Wikipedia"
for Portland, only more local and more fun.) This evening a few of us
will get together at Backspace for a bit of wikiwork, food and fun.
You're invited to participate!

Here are the details:

PortlandWiki "Monday Meets" Tonight! — Backspace!
When: Monday (Labor Day) | September 6th, 2010
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Place: Backspace Cafe
Address: 115 NW 5th Ave. (Between NW Davis & NW Couch.)

Web Site: http://portlandwiki.org/PortlandWiki

PortlandWiki's first "birthday" (September 28th) is coming right up!
Over the past year, a relative handful of PortlandWiki administrators
have worked regularly on PortlandWiki. Now we're inviting more folks
to get involved, and we sincerely hope you will consider accepting our
invitation!

So why not grab your notebook, netbook or laptop and come on down to
Backspace Cafe this evening? Look for the confused-looking, "lost
souls" types hunched forlornly over notebook computers. That's
probably us.

Want more info? Check out the PortlandWiki site (http://
portlandwiki.org/PortlandWiki), or send an email to the address shown
on PortlandWiki's admin contact page: http://portlandwiki.org/PortlandWiki:Administrators

Hope to see you this evening!

Kind regards,

Hey znmeb! Sorry about that. "Do you close early this evening?" was the one question I forgot to ask when I stopped by Backspace earlier today. I thought I was keeping a good eye out for folks who stopped in, but apparently missed you. I'll try looking around now...

Yeah - plan B turned out to be "head back to Beaverton on the MAX, get
in my car and drive over to Ava." ;-)

Next week at the Blitz Pearl, I guess. ;-)

Thanks Bill. On behalf of PortlandWiki, I think it's safe to say that we're very much interested in collaborating with ONI folks. Michael Andersen is one of PortlandWiki's most consistent contributors, and is involved in many of our planning discussions. A qualified ONI-PortlandWiki liaison, perhaps?

Thanks again Ed for showing up at Backspace last night! Sorry about the mix-up. Tried to track you down right after receiving your email, but apparently you'd already taken off. Look forward to seeing you at Blitz Pearl next Monday!

Obviously PortlandWiki's core maintainers aren't terribly skilled outreach specialists. But we do sincerely hope to encourage wider participation in Portland's nascent civic wiki. One issue we'll immediately try to address (one which we've only taken a half-hearted stab at previously) is to come up with some kind of indicator that identifies the PortlandWiki Monday Meet Group so that newcomers can spot us more easily in a public setting.

Hope to see y'all at PortlandWiki's next Monday Meetup at Blitz Pearl on Monday!

For what it's worth, I do indeed think Portland Wiki is awesome, and I've gotten a lot out of getting to know its organizers over the last year. I think anybody who believes in making it easier for ordinary people to get local information (!!) should know about this project and consider getting on the Portland Wiki Wednesday mailing list or stopping by their Monday meetups at Blitz and Backspace. It's a hoot.

Printed "table tents" are the "tradition" - Meetup has (branded) PDF
files you can download and print. We're doing that for ONI, IIRC.
