OK, folks, here is our more or less complete list of those attending this coming week's Vietnam Old Hacks Reunion in Saigon under the general imprimatur of Vietnam Foreign Affairs-sponsored "Foreign Press Week in HCM City - 25 April to 1 May 2015."    Most are staying at the Rex Hotel but not all.  We have 24 participants, plus wives and relatives.

Tim Page and myself are planning a Friday 24 April arrival in Saigon so will be on-hand to welcome you.

Dates of arrivals vary and so let's make this message a gathering point with your personal dates of arrival in Saigon -- and I'm sure you're also in touch with Mr Tung at FA.   Not all will be there on 25th and, right now, I have Peter A on 26th; Ut on 27th; Edie Lederer and Ray Wilkinson on 28th.

Fyi, we are already generating lots of media interest -- including Reuters, AFP and AP -- and this list will be passed along to others.  So, if I've got dates & affiliations wrong, please advise me asap.   If this is anything like 2010, I'll also end up playing PR for the group and getting as many of your stories told as possible.

I look forward to seeing you in good ol' Saigon.

Best regards,

Carl

NOTE:  This List is also sent as an attachment.

Hello Carl and all,

I should adjust my Old Hacks listing.

I was accredited as correspondent of the US National Council of Churches, employed by Church World Service (its international relief and development arm), which together with Lutheran World Relief and the Mennonite Central Committee formed Vietnam Christian Service, which we first called VCS. Because VCS looked like something else, we went Vietnamese-style for Viet Nam Christian Service (VNCS). VNCS was not a missionary organization, but what would now be called an NGO. I was information officer and visited Quang Ngai, Tam Ky, Nhatrang, Pleiku, Dak To, Quang Tri and Di Linh where we had American and Canadian doctors, nurses, social workers and community development specialists posted.

I free-lanced with Empire News. Hal Ellithorpe and Paul Avery assigned me to cover R&R in Bangkok and Singapore (some Singapore Girls in 1967 were short-time GI companions, not air hostesses). An Empire News assignment in Bangkok helped me meet my first wife, who now lives in suburban Cleveland. I spent some 'quiet time' with Bob Ellision's chest of photo gear after he was killed in Khe Sanh. Like the Mennonites and Quakers, I became anti-war, but in San Francisco, the men and women of Swords to Plowshares told me I was a veteran too, though I was never in the military.

Before going to Saigon I worked for the Cleveland Press, a Scripps-Howard paper. In Danang I met Scripps-Howard's Jim Lucas, who introduced me to the Marine Press Center.

-Lance Woodruff. US National Council of Churches/Church World Service. Vietnam Christian Service. Empire news. 1966-68. Asian Christian Service,

Looking forward to see you all in Saigon.

Lance Woodruff

Carl
I have given your name and the names of some of the other old hacks to Tara Joseph of REUTERS and her cameraman AJ Jackson – both friends from Hong Kong.
They are doing some features while in HCM for the next week or so.
Hope you can help them out.

cheers
