Hi all,

I have recently install Fedora 11 in my system. I want to configure
telnet in Fedora box. But I can not find telnet file to configure
under /etc/xinetd.d directory. Also there is no such rpm for
installing xinetd services.

Pls help

Thanks in advance

Try to use this command.

"yum install telnet"               OR
"yum update xinetd"

you will get telnet config file inside /etc/xinetd.d/ directory. Kindly check it.

@Kakkar @anil @Nishith

I have used following command.
#yum install telnet*
It gives me "nothing to do"
Then I tried,
#yum list installed telnet*
It shows me one telnet-x.y.z installed.
Then I tried,
#yum install xinetd*
There is no such rpm for that.
When I type "service telnet restart"
it shows "Unrecognized service"
What I should do?

Pls help

@priti,telnet is a xinetd based service,it doesn't have any own script to stop or restart, once you will install telnet package, run #service xinetd start/restart
#chkconfig telnet on

# telnet <ip address>

Thanks
Kakkar

when I download rpm,

[root@linuxserver Download]# rpm -ivh telnet-
server-0.17-43.fc11.i586.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
xinetd is needed by telnet-server-1:0.17-43.fc11.i586
[root@linuxserver Download]#

There is no xinetd service also.

when I restart service,
[root@linuxserver Download]# service xinetd restart
xinetd: unrecognized service
[root@linuxserver Download]#

when I check /etc/xinetd.d

[root@linuxserver etc]# ll xinetd.d/
total 4
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 332 2007-10-16 02:30 rsync
[root@linuxserver etc]#

What should be a problem ?

Xinetd is dependency of telnet so if you install it using yum it will also install xinetd..

It is better way to install any rpm using yum which also install its dependencies

I have installed telnet server in fedora 11 using yum which also installed xinetd as dependency.
