Greetings all,

Quick question, don't suppose anyone has fished for tiger fish on the
Zambizi river by any chance?

I have a friend who has asked me to tie some flies for him and I'm
wondering what hooks are advisable. I have heard they're big and grumpy
and want hooks that are reliable.

Thanks

Ashley

I have friend who hails from South Africa who has. I could contact him and aks from some info. Regardless, flashy, non-bulky pike flies with appropriate hooks should work.

I'm told by clients that the Gamakatsu B10S Stinger in 2/0 is the best for
Tigers. Any thicker hook is hard to set into their jaws. The B10S is
extremely sharp, relatively cheap and strong. I have landed up to 40 pound
Golden Dorado on it.

Can you say 'the baddest teeth in fresh water'?

Lots more videos there. Jeremy caught a real nice one.

I would use Owner or Gamakatsu. Use a lot of the Owners and they never let
me down.

This is what I would try- they catch just about everything else:

They are all tied on Owner hooks.  There's something about these orange eyes that make fish angry.

Thanks for the replies, I'll try and find the hooks mentioned.

DonO, I like the awesome hair flies. Actually, awesome hair flies were
first on my list of flies as part of full filling the request.

Jack Gartside went to Zimbabwe and fished for tiger trout, here is the
url for one of his flies.

He had a real nice slide show of the trip for about a year before he got
to sick to travel.

Thanks Peggy,

I remembered reading this ages ago. Emailed. To my friend with a suggestion to do some of the flies as I already have the materials.
