Hi,

I have minimal development experience but am going to be focusing on learning several hours a day and am considering JavaScript primarily because I love what can be done in the browser with plug-ins like ad block plus. I recently learned that full applications can be developed with js which is making me really consider focusing fully on js instead of rails because I ultimately want to make a web app.

What you are doing looks very interesting.

Cheers,

Ron

Yeah! Welcome to the movement Ron!

Not sure how minimal your development experience is, but if you want a
fun intro on how to use rather than write Javascript, check out
http://jsforcats.com which my buddy Max made.

Also check out the open remotestorage standard, which enables you to
very simply add user management and storage to your app without
needing to worry about it yourself: http://remotestorage.io
And join our IRC channels #unhosted and #remotestorage if you like to chat more!

Cheers!

Hi Ron,

I'm pretty new here too but I'd just like to comment on the kinds of
applications that can be developed with JavaScript. Not only are full
applications possible, but even complete systems.

One of my all-time favorites is JS/Linux
<http://bellard.org/jslinux/>. While Linux itself is not in JS, the
PC emulator that runs it is... The author created it "to learn
JavaScript." (In contrast, Atomic OS - which I started years ago,
also to learn JS - isn't in the same category as JS/Linux. Atomic OS
is merely an abstraction that looks [sort-of] like an OS. JS/Linux is
the real deal. The author mentioned once that it'll happily run DOS
and probably Windows 3.x as well.)

Another example might be dnsserver.js
<https://github.com/sh1mmer/dnsserver.js> - an authoritative DNS
server in less than 500 lines of JS.

Best regards and fair winds on your journey!
