Hi all,

after some long and very fruitful discussions on
https://github.com/unhosted/website/issues?page=1&state=closed
and many draft versions here is, for now, the result:

https://unhosted.org/

We put a list of advantages back like we had before, the diagrams
from last year's flyer, and also we now have the navigation sidebar
on all the pages.

The No Cookie Crew was also temporarily moved to the background,
since in three months nobody has been brave enough to join yet,
which started to become a bit silly. We'll put it back next year
or so when hopefully unhosted web apps become more usable and
normal, and we all start relying less and less on hosted and
desktop apps. :)

I had originally written the text from the starting point of a
problem definition ('the cloud is evil'), but this approach was
unanymously shot down by everybody else, so instead we now start
by presenting the solution, then explaining what it can do, and
leaving the problem it solves more implicit.

I only left one "propagandist" link in there as you will see,
because i feel this is just a hugely underlit issue, so it is our
duty to do a bit of gentle name-and-shame. Still a very subtle
point though, compared to the rants about evil billionaires that
i had written in previous versions, though. :)

This is still a continuous work in progress, so please suggest
any improvements you can think of, either by replying to this
thread or by opening github issues.

Please comment! :)

Cheers,
Michiel

Looking better! I plan to submit some suggested changes when I get a
moment, mostly just wording stuff.

I wouldn't say due to lack of bravery! I think dogfooding is
essential, and don't think anyone has implied otherwise. The rules
you've laid down for NCC aren't just dogfooding (using unhosted web
apps). I'd say for most people, the reason no one wants to join is due
to not really agreeing with the premise (the name is also
misleading/negative). It's like having a pizza with some toppings you
like, and a lot you don't, when you decide not to eat the pizza,
someone asks "why do you hate pizza?". :)

Cheers!
Nick

Great stuff!

Why don't you have a share widget on these pages so that viewers can
easily +1 these pages across Google, Facebook etc.. Yes, I know those
all exemplify anti-patterns, but they also exposed this critical
"software freedom" vision to broad audiences that are rapidly loosing
said freedom :-)
