Dear All

Last night i got back from Currys with my third Sammy 709 in a week and yet
again it has the same picture freezing problem that the last two had.

I am going to take it back tommorrow and ask for my money back, does anyone
know of any alternatives that can be as easily set to multi-region (i.e.
through a remote control ) as the Sammy.

My requirements are that it must have SVHS out, and Dolby DIgital out (no
requirement for built in decoder as I have a Yamaha AV) also must have DTS
out.

Any ideas ?

Regards

Ok i have done a little more research on this and it seems I am down to too
choices available prechipped from a very reuptable supplier.

Anyone got any views on what is the best machine out of

Pioneer DV-525 or Toshiba SD2109

I exchanged my Sammy 709 for a Toshiba SD2109 B player and I am very happy
with it.
It plays all discs no problem.
The only thing to take into account is that I had to shell out £84 for the
player to be chipped by Techtronics, but I personally believe it is a small
price to pay for such a well rounded player.

Howdy!

Personally I think if I was going to exchange my 709, I'd probably go for
the Panny A160 - around a similar price to the two you mentioned, and after
reading a few reviews (not gospel - I know), which compared the Panny, the
Pioneer and the Tosh, the Panasonic has always done superbly, the other two,
whilst no doubt fine players, didn't fair quite as well in the reviews that
I read. (And no - I have no connection to Panasonic, nor have anything to
gain by any recommendation! ;-) )

Just out of interest, can you elaborate on your problem with your 709,
details, and whatever disks produce this problem?

I take it you are aware of the impending firmware upgrade, to the 709?

Basically I took the third one back today after problems at random positions
on random discs with picture freezes. When i took it back today i found
Currys have now withdrawn the product due to so many being taken back.

The specific disks i had problems with are Mask of Zorro, Holyman, Small
Soldiers, thats 3 out of my collection of 4 !!!!
