this year ... can anyone advise me of the easiest cheap way of doing this?

thanks

Speak with the executor.

Find as accurately as you can the date and place of death, then ask the
local Probate Registry; there is a small fee (I forget how much) for a
copy. If you want to be absolutely sure, it has to be a copy of the
death certificate and the Central Probate Registry.

Unfrotunately I dont know if a will exhists or if it does who the executor is
... I also wish to conceal the reasons for my interest in the estate of the
deceased...

There is also a procedure whereby you can lodge a notice with the
Probate Registry (a caveat) which will oblige them to notify you if an
application is made for a grant of representation to the estate. You
will then have to move quite quickly either to withdraw your caveat or
commence a Probate action (the latter is to be avoided at all costs
unless your stake in the business is enormous or you are very rich - or
both). Ask for details at your local Probate Registry.

Six months from the grant of probate, I believe.

Issue a standing search.
