So, I just finished watching the entire run of the Bob Newhart Show - the 1970's were before my time but I'm curious about one thing - how come the show doesn't seem to acknowledge that Suzanne PLeshette was gorgeous? Did everyone in the 1970's just feel she was not unattractive but some sort of run of the mill attractive? I mean, there were a couple eps where she was jealous about Bob's old college girlfriends who were apparently super attractive (one was shown but others were not), I'm thinking - in that era, was Pleshette considered "average" or so she was more relatable to the avg viewer?  - also, is there a backstory to Newhart only making cameos appearances in a handful of eps in season 5 and 6, was he just bored?? Curious what you think? Thanks.

Just in time for the Paris Olympics, for which WBD's Eurosport has
exclusive non-terrestrial rights (and the second season of "House of the
Dragon")--it will include WBD-owned linear channels, including Eurosport,
and an extra-pay sports hub--it is not launching in countries where Sky is
in operation and has rights to HBO programs:

I read that as “Max Headroom is in Europe” and got excited.

Watched the full series this week. Some of the details I knew as it
happened, others I learned a few years ago, but there was a lot I did not
know. The names of the people who wrote letters to the court supporting a
pedophile (who was recorded admitting to the crime) and trying to blame the
victim was disheartening.

Until now, I thought the worst thing that ever came out of the “Nickelodeon
on Sunset” building was “The Chevy Chase Show.”

I wonder how much the Disney executives are praying they don’t produce a
second season focused on the Disney Channel?

So they can’t refer to someone as transphobia unless they, themselves,
“accept” the term?! Isn’t that akin to not calling someone racist unless
they call themselves racist? Can the BBC still refer to Trump as a
buffoonish, chauvinistic, tax-dodging, sexual predator if he doesn’t accept
the term?

The link says that this came up after a host of BBC Radio 4's "Today"
programme (no relation to or not to be confused with our "Today" show) said
"trans women, in other words, males" on the air in referring to a story
about whether biological males have an advantage in chess (they obviously
never saw "The Queen's Gambit"). Sounds like the guy was auditioning to
replace Piers Morgan on Rupert's TalkTV or one of the Tory politicians that
the government regulators say cannot host shows on GBNews anymore.

It's not that often I go to a theatre, but watching the Taylor Swift Eras

watching it on my tablet or cable TV.

Pleshette was a frequent guest on Carson’s Tonight Show back in the day. Between that and Newhart and Columbo, I always carried a torch for her.

As someone who was exactly the right age during the original run, I think the general consensus was that Emily was right up there with Laura Petrie, Samantha Stevens, and 99, and that Bob had married up. They were, at the time, one of the few sitcom couples who seemed to have a real attraction to each other.

Hollywood, and whatever passed for popular culture at the time, tied sexiness to over the top glamour. That led to weird binaries like Ginger/Mary Ann on Gilligans Island and Jennifer/Bailey on WKRP. By any other standard Dawn Wells and Jan Smithers were drop dead gorgeous. But we were told the characters should be seen as plain.

Bob Newhart’s Wikipedia page say that he missed several episodes in 1977 because of the birth of one of his children.

As I recall, that was the period where his appearances were limited to phone calls (always his forte) while he was on the road for a book tour. All of those segments, of course, could have been shot at the same time and edited in, like Fred MacMurray's later seasons on "My Three Sons."
