I "nuked and paved" my computer over the weekend, and as a result had
to tell Dreamweaver and Windows how to recognize KID files again.

There is a good post about it here:
http://groups.google.com/group/turbogears/browse_thread/thread/68027dabaaaa96d5/808abe7255711bcd?q=dreamweaver&rnum=2#808abe7255711bcd

I thought I would offer a step-by-step for you impatient ones that
don't like to read (I used to be one). This is for Windows XP:

Make sure Dreamweaver is closed through all of this. It would probably
be ok not to, but just to be on the safe side.

1. Search for "MMDocumentTypes" and make sure you search through hidden
files and folders.
2. Open up ALL instances found in a text editor (I personally only
found one)
3. search for "xhtml" and replace it with "xhtml, kid" (should only be
in the first 3 lines)
4. Save and close all your MMDocumentTypes files
5. Search for "Extensions.txt" and make sure you search through hidden
files and folders.
6. Open up ALL instances found in a text editor (I personally only
found two)
7. Add "KID" to the end of the "All Documents" line, the first one (so
it looks like "...JAVA,EDML,WML,KID:All Documents"
8. Save and close all your Extensions.txt files
9. Done, Dreamweaver will now open and read all KID files, even in
layout view.

The above will not tell Windows that KID files are to be opened in
Dreamweaver. To do that:
1. Open up "My Computer"
2. In the menu go Tools > Folder Options
3. Click on "File Types"
4. Scroll down and try to find KID

5a. If it is there click Change
6a. "Select Program From A List" and press OK
7a. Select Dreamweaver from the list of applications

5b. If it is not there click New
6b. Type in KID and press OK closing both pop-ups
7b. Browse to a KID file
8b. Right click the KID file and select "Open with"
9b. Select Dreamweaver

There, you have now fully taught Windows and Dreamweaver how to deal
with KID files

Is this on the wiki somewhere? If not, it would be nice to have it there :)

I used this recipe,

It would be nice to add the info from above,

Mike
