The GTFS feed for the Tappan ZEExpress (TZx) bus in New York is now
available.

The TZx is a commuter bus service that connects destinations on the
I-287 Rockland-Westchester Tappan Zee Bridge corridor, including
Suffern, Spring Valley, Palisades Mall, Nyack, Tarrytown, and White
Plains, with scheduled connections to MTA Metro-North rail service.

The file is available “as is” and can be downloaded from
https://geopower.jws.com/rockland/DataPage.jsp#

As always, we welcome feedback from the developer community, please e-
mail rockla...@gmail.com if you have any questions or comments.

Thanks,

At long last, Microsoft is now providing transit trip planning in Bing
maps. See
http://www.bing.com/community/blogs/maps/archive/2010/09/16/bing-maps-gets-transit-directions.aspx
for details. They only cover 11 cities currently but it will of course grow.

Fantastic! I particularly like the info about previous/next stops
around your destination:

"Previous stop is Powell St. BART
If you reach Embarcadero BART, you've gone too far"

Anyone know what data they are using? GTFS?

I won't hold my breath, but that would be great.

Yes. Microsoft is using GTFS data for all the 11 markets being
supported.

The obvious thing that comes to mind is comparing some of the data. If
they're the same between the two, I'd say the chance is very high that
they're using the same source.

On a simple search for New York City:
Start: E 57th St & 3rd Ave, Ny, NY 10022
End: 6th Ave & W 16th St, New York, NY 10011

Stop names on Google Maps: "Lexington - 53RD St", "14th Street -"
Head sign on Google Maps: "To METROPOLITAN AVENUE"
Route short name on Google Maps: "M"

Stop names on Bing: "LEXINGTON - 53RD ST", "14TH STREET -"
Head sign on Bing: "To METROPOLITAN AVENUE"
Route short name on Bing: "M"

Looks pretty similar to me. Even a superfluous dash is the same
between the two.

Incidentally, I found Google Maps to be far more pleasant to use than
Bing. Nice try guys, but it looks like you've still got some catching
up to do. :)

Thanks for your work on this project, Subbarayudu—transit information
needs to be on *every* map. I'd encourage you or someone else from
the project to get involved in the GTFS-changes group to help improve
the format to meet your needs:
http://groups.google.com/group/gtfs-changes/

Cheers,
Joe

Hi there! I have been a frequent contributor to the Transit app (com.thetransitapp.droid) and we've fallen short of having TOR as a local or Express (TZx) layer. The information made to their team was outdated but I have a gtfs file made not long ago dated 2013...

Alex and Jake, the two devs I've been sending emails back and forth with, need an updated web host so the app vaj take the feed in. If you guys can assist us in adding Rockland to this app (and others who use this method), it would be mutually beneficial.

Alex can be reached at (al...@thetransitapp.com)
Jake can be reached at (ja...@thetransitapp.com)

Thanks. I can be reached at (eshie...@live.com) (it'll go to my Gmail anyway).

Thanks.

Hi there, data is quite out dated. v1.6j.zip is 3 year expired by now. Do you have any plans in updating it?

Regards!
