Hi all,

Can someone suggest some good trails to run in the S. Portland area? I take my little boy to preschool 5 days a wk/3hrs a day.  I am around the Running Hill Road area, close to Scarborough. I need to start utilizing my running time better since it gets dark sooner and my usual haunt (Pineland) is out of the question.

Went back up to Back Cove today after dropping him off, but, that is a bit of running around up and back on 295. Also, I don't enjoy running the roads around the industrial park area by his school.  Any help would be appreciated, there must be something good down there? I just don't know the area that well.  My running is suffering a bit and I need to shake this slump I am in.

Thanks,
-Amy

Running Hill Road is pretty close to the Stroudwater and Fore River
trails, part of Portland Trails. Probably a 5 minute drive from
Running Hill Road.

Fore River probably has the most to offer, but you can also link the
two by using a bit of (busy) road. The trail head for Fore River is at
an office building with plenty of parking on Outer Congress Street.
I'm not sure what it's like this time of year but i suspect it gets
regular foot traffic.

Running Hill Road is out by the Mall, not near the Greenbelt.

I live in SoPo and like to run a 1.4-mile loop at Robinson Woods, part of the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust. It’s beautiful single track with plenty of roots and rocks. This time of year it’s well-packed snow.

Parking is available behind the Unum buildings and there's a nice trailhead to these trails (Stroudwater and Fore River)  just off the parking lot.  Some of the Stroudwater trails gets posted through the winter because of nesting birds but I usually go through anyway.  Fore River usually doesn't get posted. Usually takes a couple of days after a snowstorm for the trails to get packed down from foot traffic.

Probably around 9:30 a.m. Maureen. I think I know how to get to Unum,
need to look at a map.
