A Letter from Team Sapsucker

Watch our new Big Day video and enter our "scavenger hunt" contest to win binoculars

Birding for 24 hours may sound crazy, especially if the goal is to see more birds than anyone else in a single day. But it’s a time-honored tradition for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Team Sapsucker, resulting in more than $2.7 million raised for bird conservation since 1984.

This year, we’re setting a new challenge. We’re heading to Texas in pursuit of the national record for most birds seen on a “Big Day” anywhere in the United States (261 species). Our goal: to raise more than $250,000 for bird conservation by asking everyone who cares about birds to make a pledge for each species we find.

We’re passionate about birds and about the crucial conservation work made possible with your help. Click here to see a video about why we’re giving this event our all, and what we hope to find on the Big Day.

Take part in our Big Day "scavenger hunt" contest for a chance to win a pair of Nikon Monarch binoculars, or a Cornell Lab of Ornithology fleece vest or Cornell Lab hat, thanks to Wild Birds Unlimited at Sapsucker Woods. Just watch the Big Day video and answer three short questions about the birds. We hope you'll tell your bird-loving friends about it too! Watch the video and make your guesses.
Thanks to everyone who has made a pledge for every bird species we find on the Big Day. If you haven't made a pledge yet, visit our Big Day website to help support bird conservation.

Sincerely,

Chris Wood (captain), Jessie Barry, Andrew Farnsworth, Marshall Iliff, Tim Lenz, Brian Sullivan
