Remember that this needs to be held down when booting (so remove batteries - fresh batteries - before trying this).
I was also informed that currently, from the maintenance window, option 2 does not work with the number 2, instead use the letter “t”.
first off, install a new set of batteries.Then press Home+Enter+P + On (check that on is the last key to be pressed) and hold all 4 keys pressed until you see the maintenance menu. From that menu select the option to delete the OS. Then you must re-install the OS from a computer or another device.If the calculator doesn't respond even with a new set of batteries, then it's time to call customer support
Nelson
The reset button on the back of the Nspires deletes all files but does
not solve a problem that can't be solved with less agressive methods.
Anytime there's real trouble and you don't seem to find the answer,
try the following:
0. (do this first): check if the OS is up to date; if an older OS is
doing something different then there were changes on the last upgrade;
try to determine them and adjust your construction.
1. Start a new document (remember to save your document first) and see
if the problem persists; there could be something wrong with your
construction (whenever I'm in trouble, 99% of the times it's because I
did something wrong somewhere but can't figure out what). If the new
document doesn't show the same behaviour, then maybe it's best to
start the construction from the top.
2. If the new document exhibits the same behaviour, check the
Document, System and Graphs & Geometry settings; note that there are
three different angle settings: one for Calculator, L&S, Notes and D&S
applications (default Rad); one for the Graph window (default Rad) and
yet a third one for the Plane Geometry view (default Deg). To check
whether it's an angle settings thing, go through all three settings.
3. If the calculator is crashing or for some reason doesn't seem to
respond to user action or there's nothing detectable on the Settings,
use the maintenance menu: remove the batteries and wait a few seconds;
re-install the batteries (this is done to get the Nspire ready to
boot, instead of resuming the last session); press the following key
combination (all keys at once, make sure to press the On key LAST):
Enter+Home+P+On. This will activate the maintenance menu, which offers
4 options:
- reboot (nothing happens, just a plain reboot); this usually does the
trick with no need for further action.
- delete OS (erases completely the OS, you'll need to install a fresh
one from another Nspire or computer); this will solve (almost) any
problem, although in many cases it won't be needed.
- delete all documents (the OS remains unchanged, only the documents
will be deleted - probably won't solve any problem the first two
options can't solve too)
- format all memory (deletes all files and OS; again, if options 1 and
2 didn't work this probably won't do any good either).
Try these four options in the order they're presented here. There's no
need to use the most agressive solution if a less agressive solution
solved the problem (and it usually does).
So, whenever there's trouble, here's the list of suspects*:
Main suspect: You! Check everything you did,
Second suspect: The document; start a new document and try again;
Third suspect: The System and G&G Settings; check them thoroughly
Fourth suspect: The OS; upgrade or reinstall it.
Fifth and last suspect: The hardware. When everything else fails,
contact TI and check whether the unit is faulty.
* I'm assuming the OS is up to date; that's the first thing you'd want
to check. There are always good reasons to upgrade, so do it as soon
as a new version is available. Starting with Nspire software 1.6 and
Nspire computer link 1.3 updates are detected and installed
automatically.
