Hi everyone,

Reminded of [1] and inspired by siglets [2] I finally set out to get
that baby home for good. Feel free to rejoice at my all new
ColoredLinksPlugin [3] :o)

It's not perfectly the original, especially not the theme.... I was
after the idea.

For simplicity's sake, I also decided not to create extra icon-like
boxes in the sidebar but to only allow for styling of the links
themselves instead.

Cheers, Tobias.

Wow that's neat! I was just thinking in the last week or two that that
would be cool to do. You must have read my mind. I will try to
remember what I wanted to have it for, then will try it out!

Sweet,

Can I configure i colorTemplate for this new plugin? If I tag a
tiddler with "man" it automatically gets a color ie "blue" if I tag it
"woman" it gets "purple"? This template I can then add or remove more
tags and colors to fit my needs. That would be really cool.

Thanks Tobias, you're a champ :)

Hi Tobbe,

Right now you can only color links and tiddler titles with
ColoredLinksPlugin. The thing with whole tiddlers would be that it
would possibly require more, independent rules for coloring to not
render tiddlers unreadable. Other than that, I find titles to be a
strong indicator already.

For styling complete tiddlers differently I would probably go with
something like TaggedTemplateTweak [1] which would not only allow you
to set custom css rules, but also to reposition content elements, e.g.
title, subtitle, tiddler-text, tagging... etc.

Tobias.

Hi Tobbe & Tobias

If you install Eric's SetTiddlerBackground transclusion
http://www.tiddlytools.com/#SetTiddlerBackground - you should be able
to add an effect of coloring tiddlers via tags as well.
Nice job Tobias - thank you for yet another great plugin.

Hi TobIas

I would like to use your plugin on a different TiddlyWiki, but I can't
decipher your instructions, nor can I get the links to show up in
another color. What besides the plugin and the stylesheet additions do
you need to import to make it work?

Coming up "TypeError: jQuery.parseJSON is not a function" whenever I
create a tiddler 'empty' and assign it a color in valid CSS

Hi Dave,

I developped it in a (vanilla) 2.6.x ...the one I used for
TagSearchPlugin.

What version did you try to install it in? Maybe it really does
require the latest version of TW(+JQ)?

Cheers, Tobias

Wow. Another feather in the cap I say. A software as powerful as
tiddlywiki should look gorgeous too (or handsome if that pleases you),
I just hope it keeps on getting better and better.

And the floating menu? Wow again. I was not aware of its existence in
tiddlyverse.

Great job.

Thanks Tobias, that did the trick. But now the new tiddler macro
doesn't create tags for the new tiddler in 2.6? Or did the syntax
change? This:

<<newTiddler tag:"empty" tag:"mtThemesBPN" tag:"BPN">>

is creating a new tiddler without any tags, when it should have three.

On every theme I try to install the plugin the 'backstage area'
disappear and that even on a new empty TW or on a tiddlyspot TW.
Did I miss something or is the plugin only in development.
Thanks the work anymay.

Hi Pr.Fran,

Thanks for pointing out. Fixed, hopefully. Get the updated
ColoredLinksPlugin v1.0.2 from here:

Note that it is intended to not see the backstage area in the online-
version... so, you'll have to download the plugin or the TiddlyWiki to
verify that it works now.

Cheers, Tobias.

Mhhh... that worked for me. I have no idea why it wouldn't work for
you.

Hi Tobias,
please note that in my firefox 2.0 the toolbar buttons are very very
BIG. I solved with this simple modification in stylesheet:

from:
.toolbar .button{
display:inline-block;
margin-bottom:0;}

to:
.toolbar .button{
display:inline;
display:inline-block;
margin-bottom:0;
padding:3px;}

Hi Tiziano,

Thanks for the feedback. For everyone else, please note that all of
this is unrelated to ColoredLinksPlugin.

The toolbar buttons are so big by design ...unless in your browser
they stretch across the whole tiddler, which of course would not be
intended. Personally, if one wanted to make the toolbar buttons
smaller, I would also make the round corners smaller while increasing
the padding a little more, like so...

.toolbar .button{
display:inline-block;
margin-bottom:0;
padding:5px;
-moz-border-radius:5px;
-webkit-border-radius:5px;
border-radius:5px;
}

Cheers, Tobias.

Hi again, Tiziano,

Ah, I see... in ff 2.0 they do stretch across the whole tiddler...
since ff 2.0 does not know of any inline-block yet... that's why
you've added the display:inline right before.

Good to know.

Thanks, Tobias.

What would be the css code to put in the tagcolor field for
strikethrough text?

Ask google ;o)

{text-decoration: line-through;}

Thank you! Intersting, because before my post, I had tried

color: gray; text-decoration: line-through;

This makes the links gray but does not do the strike-through.
Dropping the color statement causes the strike-through to display.
Reversing the two statement also show strike-through, but no gray!
Can I conclude that the two statements are mutually exclusive, and
that the first statement takes precedence over subsequent ones?

Hi Saverin,

Great to see you use it! Actually, it looks like the blanks in your
css were the problem, so I (hopefully) corrected the code to allow for
blanks in css definitions.

Get it from here...

Excellent. Thank you! Any thoughts about a methodology for combining
styles in tiddlers with multiple styled tags?

Hi Saverio,

So you mean where the tags that a tiddler is tagging to have different
styles attached?

Mhhh... dunno if that's such a good idea in general ...but one could
make it an option if it wouldn't require a plethora of code. I'll
think about that.

On the other hand what would you want that for? ...or are you simply
being playful about what else could be done?

Cheers, Tobias.

A real use case example is that I have tiddlers that represent tasks.
Tasks tagged with 'urgent' are red. However, tasks tagged with 'done'
should be displayed with strikethrough. Currently, which style gets
displayed is the *first* tag in the tiddler's tag list, not the *last*
tag recorded, nor some other "semi-intelligent" algorithm for
reconciling. A sophisticated method would be to be able to define a
hierarchy of tags, and the system applies the styles sequentially from
low to high (higher tags overwriting the style of lower tags when they
are mutually exclusive). In my example, completed urgent tasks would
be both red and strikedthrough.

Not an urgent use case that I need, but something for you to think
about in your free time. :-)

Thanks!

Both ideas make a lot of sense!

1) a global priority list (top to bottom)
2) the last added tag being the dominant one instead of the first

I hope 2) wont nag a lot of people as they have to reorder things. But
considering that ColoredLinksPlugin isn't all that old, let's hope
that its not such a big trouble.

On the other hand, I guess it would be somewhat simply doable to have
an option as to whether priority is given left to right or right to
left... Makes the algorithm a bit more complex but, still, fairly
straight forward.

Again... I'll think about it... in all of my "free time" ;o)

Cheers, Tobias.
