Have you tried loggin on to your account on the Web? You may well
find a Hotmail "update information" page being displayed with a box
that needs to be checked to not show the page again.

Getting the same thing here. Tried to log into MSN and not available.
The evil empire is at it again folks.

I was getting this too. Go to hotmail and there is a new welcome
message. Click don't show this message again and continue, and it
should work again.

Also getting negative vibes. I fixed my problem by logging in at
hotmail.com and I and brought to a site with a wonderful message from
MSN talking about how cool and hip there "new" hotmail is. All I did
was click continue and now Thunderbird is working fine. I am guessing
that that message from MSN was messing up Thunderbird and stop me from
getting e-mail for that pas TEN DAYS. MAN I LOVE MSN!

Make sure you check the box that says "Do not show this again" or you
will still have the bad vibes message in Thunderbird...

INFO and SUGGESTION:

If you enter: hotmail.com you are taken to the Hotmail Live login,
however, if you login thru msnbc, com, you are logged directly into
your hotmail.com account without any of the prompts that keep breaking
the Hotmail extension of Webmail.

Perhaps, adding msnbc.com to the list of current login choices:

Hotmail (Old website)
WebDav
Hotmail Live (New website)

could solve the intermittent login issues and associated support
requests in this list.

What do you think?

I also ran into this problem with negative vibes, but I simply logged
into the hotmail account though a webbrowser and got the "You asked for
it hotmail listed" splash screen, clicked the "do not show me this
again" check box and continue. And it worked fine (I had to do this for
every account but a quick and easy fix). Have you tried this?

I think that Blues Renegade was suggesting that msnbc.com be made an
option for the URL that the extension uses to log in to Hotmail. In this
way the information pages that Hotmail have been serving up recently
before the log in page are by-passed.

Chris got it. That's exactly what I was suggesting.

Now you know how simple it is, Darth, you'll know to look there next
time it happens. But how about all the other Webmail users? Look at the
traffic that checkbox brings to this group--asking the Webmail author
for a fix. He is extremely patient to deal with this same problem over
and over again.

I'm suggesting something that could benefit all of us, Webmail users and
the Webmail author.

Actually that particular problem with the "splash screen" has been a
issue twice now since hmm October I think. I was just mentioning it as
some may not realize how easy of it a fix it can be. I see your
suggestion and I don't see a problem in adding that as a option.
However users will still need to set that option (unless it could be
made that by default). Also I just tried logging into the MSNBC website
then going to the mail from there. While it did work I would still get
the same splash screen I found before that I need to check the "don't
see this again" check box. I just don't see it helping, if I am wrong
and the webmail author thinks so by all means use the best method. He
knows far better than I. :) But something to consider if it does indeed
work as described (and it was just a fluke why it didn't work for me) I
have this feeling it is just something hotmail missed and will fix that
in time.

I do have one suggestion though, why not add to the "neagative vibes"
error message a comment about trying to log into your webmail account
normally and see if there is a splash screen you can click a "do not see
this again" check box and try webmail again? I get the feeling that
hotmail is going to be doing this splash screen more often.

When I tried logging in through the msnbc URL, I didn't get to the
Hotmail page anyway. In any case what's to prevent MSN showing a splash
screen at that URL. An error message that directs users to their service
provider's web site may well be a better way of dealing with a change to
log in, at least it would give the user a chance to see and dismiss any
splash screen before assuming that there was a problem their end.

Merry Christmas
