For the past several days I've been unable to download my mail from
hotmail for some reason.

I'm getting the following errors.

Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server localhost responded:
negative vibes
Login to server localhost failed.

I'm using thunderbird 3.0.5, Webmail 1.3.8 and Webmail - Hotmail
1.2.26

The following messages appear in the error console.

login.live.com : potentially vulnerable to CVE-2009-3555
login.live.com : potentially vulnerable to CVE-2009-3555
Hotmail-SR-BETA: loginHandler : Exception : Error.
Error message: error logging in
306

Is anybody else having this same issue?

I'm getting negative vibes for my main hotmail account too for some
months now, whilst my other one still works perfectly.
I'm getting a different error message than you tho.

Hotmail-SR-BETA: loginHandler : Exception : Error.
Error message: No many bounces

I updated to 1.2.27 and thunderbird 3.1 and thunderbird will actually
log into my account now, but it claims there aren't any new messages
on the server when there are. Any ideas?

This evening I got prompted for the update to 1.2.27 and took it.
After that I could no longer receive hotmail messages with console
messages similar to those reported. Previous to the update I was
sending and receiving emails with no issues. I have the logs but I
don't see a way to attach or upload them.
Thanks
Jon

The old extension is here,
http://download.mozdev.org/webmail/hotmail-1-2-26.xpi

If this version has stopped working I'll uploaded the new version to
the file section

1-2-28 didn't work for me. It still wouldn't download unread emails.
However, if I go into the options and uncheck the download unread
emails only box then it downloads my emails leaving copies on the
server still marked as unread.

I have the same issue - quite a few e-mails have accumulated in the
Inbox and it is not downloading anything past the first page.

Also, it is not deleting the e-mails that it has downloaded.

Neither version is working for me. No extension has worked for me so
far, since hotmail changed the site, Ive been getting bad vibes with
1.2.26, 1.2.27 and 1.2.28. I tried unchecking the download unread
emails only box, but that hasnt worked either.

Hi there, been strugeling with this for a couple of days now..
Latest version 1.2.8 seem to be working for me.. Thanks for the fix.

However I cannot find anywhere to change between new and old hotmail/
live site any more?
Is that removed from the addons?

Thanks for a really quick fix and nice addon.

Hi, I managed to solve the problem, I had to change my hotmail options
to got to the inbox when logging in, instead of the live homepage. My
emails are being downloaded, but they arent being marked as read, or
deleted on the server when I delete them in Thunderbird.

I had 1.2.26 and a few days ago I started getting the "Sending of
password did no succeed. Mail server localhost responded: negative
vibes from..." so I upgraded to 1.2.28 and still get that error. I
tried finding the settings mentioned above in my live/hotmail account
to log into the inbox by default but it already seems to do that and I
still can't find that setting.

Works now that I found the settings in hotmail, set default to open inbox and then turned on only download unread messages in plugin otherwise I kept getting duplicate messages on every send and receive.

Using TB 3.1.2, webmail 1.3.9b1 and hotmail 1.2.29b13 seems to finally
work for me.

I'm able to connect to the server and download my email and emails are
marked as read on the server. It's also no longer downloading
duplicate emails. Thanks!

OK, I spoke too soon. I can do everything EXCEPT send emails. When I
do I can the following error:

Sending of message failed.
An error occurred sending mail: Unable to establish a secure link with
SMTP server localhost using STARTTLS since it doesn't advertise that
feature. Switch off STARTTLS for that server or contact your service
provider.

Which is weird because STARTTLS is already turned off.

Several strange things are happening with all the MS changes and the
Hotmail xpi, maybe even the Webmail xpi. Things are slowly improving;
there is a lot code to go through to make it compatible with
everybody's setups.

If your using an anti-virus software, try turning it off and try
sending thru the Hotmail extension. I found that I am having problems
here with Hotmail webmail extension with both send and receive when
AVG is online; of course, I am using Win2000 operating system so this
may not work with your setup but is worth giving a try to help narrow
down the problem.

In my anti-virus there is a setting to turn off incoming and outgoing
email scans but this didn't help; I had to turn off the resident
shield before things worked.

I got the same problem. I didn't receive emails for days. Until i
checked my inbox at hotmail website. I was full of unread emails.
I disabled the setting 'download unread only' and the shockwave of
emails came in ;-)
Only 10 minutes after that it came in for the second time and so on
until i enabled the setting again. Then everything stopped. But still
the same problem. No new unread emails after that.

Did you already pinpoint the problem? Or a workaround beside disable
and enable again?

Ohh, I'm using thunderbird 3.1.2, webmail.addon 1.3.8 and
hotmail.addon 1.2.28 and vista64.
