For all clarity, I was only joking.

Progress has been slower with the kids off school but it's coming
together now.

Local variables combine nicely with events attached to scene elements
to make it easy for elements to change each other e.g. say you want a
text entry box and a slider to control the text size:

Add edit text element to scene. Add slider. Click slider 'Value Set'
event tab, add action 'Element Text Size'. Next to the Size parameter,
click the Variable icon, select %newval. Done!

Just an example to show how you can quickly build simple little
control applications.

No, scenes can't be used for widgets due to the special requirements
of widgets. At some point in the distant future it may become possible

have installed the thing if it looked fantastic but didn't do much,
which tells me where my time is best spent.

I for one think the UI isn't too bad for what the application does, android is bad for programming-like applications which would in desktop applications involve lots of typing and big screens.

I don't have a plan except 'ASAP'. I have to be in a state to fix ICS
problems as they come up, there's an every-launch 1.6 crash bug with
1.1.1u2, and I want it available for Christmas too.

On the other hand I want to make a good impression with the new
features.

I hope to release the first beta in 2-3 weeks.

I not only installed it, I also paid for it. I'm a huge fan of Tasker. That said, I started working on some mockups. I'll post em when I get back to my main computer tomorrow. It's not that I dislike Tasker, I just feel Tasker can be better and with some of the ideas I've implemented in the UI. The user experience can be greatly improved in terms of efficiency and ease of use which is win-win for everyone. Especially Tasker as it's appeal to a wider audience grows.

Doesn't this use much more screen space relative to the current
design? I thought UI complaints were more related to the amount of
clicks required to accomplish any particular goal rather than actual
appearance color/placement wise.

The design you posted would probably look/work great on my SGS2 but on
a galaxy mini (for example) you'd probably only be able to see two
profiles at a time.

Sorry Paul, but this scheme is for me a big step down.

I dislike the black background.
The text tab labels are hard to read - icons are much easier to distinguish.
The icons next to each profile are too small, but the icons and red/green arrows in the profile drop-down panels are too large.
The fuzzy icons at the bottom are hard to make out.
Where are the exit-cancel and exit-save options?

Pent, you have much more useful things to do!

I like the header/footer but I agree with the comments that the
profile icons are too small and the header takes up too much space.

In addition, there are no context tabs in the next version and
'project selection' needs to be fit in there somewhere too.

When the new beta is out, I'd love to hear your comments on the best
way to integrate projects into the UI, I've done them as horizontally-
scrolling tabs currently, but I'm not really happy with them.

Weekly update in case you thought I was just lazing around!

Nearly finished converting stuff like Popup, Variable Query etc to use
scenes. It's cool that you can see how the dialog will look in-line in
the action edit screen. Here's the replacement for Popup Task Icons/
Buttons:

http://tasker.dinglisch.net/tease20.png

For this kind of action, you can either use the builtin layout or
build your own from scratch and use it whenever you want. I originally
had each action having it's own layout, but figured people would not
want to recreate their personal theme for every action (and the
datafile size would've gotten huge).

Next step: finishing loose ends
Final step: docs, tips etc

Updated ETA: still 2 weeks, sorry.

The nice thing is we permanent overlays now. You can have a few
buttons sitting in the corner all the time (or hide them for certain
apps, when you get a call, show them for a few seconds when the track
changes etc etc.)

So... In theory, could I disable my lockscreen and have a scene pop up for a "screen on/power on" event?
And I could use a gesture on said scene to turn off the overlay thereby "unlocking" my phone?
And I could rewrite my custom lockscreen (which currently uses Zoom/WidgetLocker) to show the same info on said scene?
And then I could stop using WidgetLocker and Zoom to save lots of resources?
Could I?

Yes... But... Lock is much more secure than the previous incarnation
but still is open to the 'warm-boot' workaround: most devices have a
hardware key combination that lets you startup without apps being
notified (in which case the lock wouldn't appear after the reboot).

> And I could use a gesture on said scene to turn off the overlay thereby

Yes.

Yes, in fact you can design your own lockscreen with lots of different
controls, with the security caveat above.

You mean the popup buttons for example in the screenshot ?

I'm not sure yet, it depends on the mechanics of the wakelocks and

I looked at this today. I implemented it so you can specify 1-200,
Never with the slider.

When the device is off and a popup should show, the screen comes on
for around 40 seconds with the keyguard temporarily disabled, then the
screen goes off. But if the timeout is longer than 40, the popup is
still there when you turn the screen on again.

That doesn't apply to Lock (it's not a popup now, it's an overlay).

Hello. I'm not sure where to ask.
Will you add also suport for Live Walpapers? I saw this on todo list
and I'd really like to see this in next version.
Thanks for reply

Certainly not next version. I'm not even sure if it's possible with
Android. There's definitely no 'official' way.

What I do is this:

Component Intent >
Class: com.android.wallpaper.livepicker.LiveWallpaperListActivity
Package: com.android.wallpaper.livepicker
Cat: None
Target: Activity

This does not change the wallpaper but opens the list of them so you
can choose.
