Leh: Flash Floods Situation Update as of 14 August 2010

Hi All,

Sphere India URS team continues to coordinate the humanitarian response to Leh, Flash Floods. Subsequently, A coordination meeting was held at the Conference Room in the DC’s Office in Leh on 13^th Aug at 5pm. The outcomes of the meeting were:

      Updating list of affected villages and

      Sharing and discussion of Ladakh Recovery Framework draft document (attached) which are ‘guidelines’ for the recovery and rehabilitation activities of agencies.

      Formation of sectoral working groups. These groups will coordinate among themselves to finalize strategies for their respective sectors. The sectoral working groups and their composition is as follows:

Shelter	1.       Ladakh Ecological Development Group (LEDeG) – Focal Point 2.       SEEDS 3.       Oxfam India 4.       Save the Children 5.       CASA/MFH – Ladakh Arts and Media Organisation (LAMO) 6.       THF/LOTI 7.       Handicap International would provide advisory support on accessibility issues to the group
WASH	1.       Oxfam India – Focal Point 2.       THF/LOTI
Livelihoods	1. CASA-MFH & Women’s Alliance 2. Snow Leopard Conservancy – Focal Point
Health	1.       MSF-Holland, Save the Children, Leh Nutrition Project 2.       Helpage India – Focal Point 3.       Handicap International
Education	1.       Save the Children
Food and Nutrition	1.       Helpage India As the District Administration has provided an assurance that sufficient food supplies are available, it was agreed that this group would primarily carry out surveillance of food security and nutrition issues.

 

      The sectoral groups would try to meet among themselves on Monday and the common coordination meeting will be held on Wednesday 18^th August at the office of LEDeG.
