We've seen this a few times in Mac OS X Lion. We're not sure what's
causing Apple's download check to behave this way, but you can resolve
it by pasting one of the following lines in a Terminal window:
If you've installed Spanning Sync for all users on the computer, paste
this line in the Terminal window:
sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine /Library/PreferencePanes/Spanning
\ Sync.prefPane
If you installed Spanning Sync for only your user, paste this line in
the Terninal window:
xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine ~/Library/PreferencePanes/Spanning\
Sync.prefPane
That should take care of the problem during restart.
