Todd-

We've seen sporadic micro-outages this weekend, but nothing that's
affected anyone for as long as yours. HTTP 500 errors come straight
from Google, and mean that something on their side went wrong. They
often crop up for individual users for a few minutes or maybe an hour,
but almost never for a day or more.

Please create a problem report and send it to me
(charli...@spanningsync.com) so I can see what API calls are
failing for your account and report those to the Calendar API team.

Thanks,
Charlie

I have been getting "unknown errors" from Google for over a week too.
I did send a problem report. I hope it will be figured out soon!

I am also receiving this error message for at least a week. I have
multiple calendars which I sync with Google and have isolated it to 1
of the calendars. Charlie, expect an email from me with my log
file

Thanks to everyone who's sent in problem reports. We've been in
contact with Google about the problem and they've isolated it on their
end. They're involving their engineering staff to find a fix, but I
imagine it may take a few days given the holidays.

I'll post updates here when we get more information.

Thanks,
Charlie

i too have been getting this one for about 2 or three weeks

--*** Server returned fatal error: * Google returned an unrecognized
response code (500) while trying to get events.
Body: Internal Error
URI: http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/94.................

it turns out to be only on one of my multiple google calendars
very much looking forward to the fix

Thanks for the data point. My engineering contact at Google says he's
found the problem and they're working on a fix, but I think they're
pretty light on stuff during the holidays. Some suers who've reported
this have since told us that the problem cleared itself up. Hopefully
either that will happen or the Google folks will get back from their
vacations and take care of it.

Thanks,
Charlie

I just heard back from Google, and they've found the problem. It's
caused by a security update they applied a few weeks ago. As soon as
their holiday code freeze lifts they'll be implementing a fix.

Hi Charlie,

Any update? I'm still experiencing this problem (since December 18).
Any word from your contact on when the holiday code freeze lifts?

We haven't heard anything else since Charlie posted the last update.
We're hoping since the holidays are over, Google will implement the
fix soon.

Thanks everyone for your patience!

Hi Everyone

I have been having the same problem for at least three weeks as well.
Byron has been great in responding to my queries, just a pity google
were not able to fix it sooner. Anyway I too look forward to a fix
(just did a sync now and I am still getting the "google reported an
unknown error" message). Please can folks post a message when the
problem has been resolved.

Thanks

Hello
I am not getting the error 500 anymore...however I still haven't had a
successful sync. I can't generate an error message log because now
the it is trying to sync, but it never gets anywhere. The applet
stays green and it is either trying to communicate with google or with
data from apple sync services. According to Spanning Sync, my last
sync happened on Dec 15.

Bummer!

I must say that I share this sense of frustration! I think we have been beyond patient and google now needs to sort this out. I thought that when I purchased this product I was buying a lifetime of convenience not frustration.

Spanning Sync team please can you get Google to commit to a timeline and resolution for this problem!

I just wanted to let you know that I tried to "start over." Spanning
Sync continues to be in stuck in an"nfinite loop of sync. But at
least it's not giving error messages anymore I suppose.

I concur that this problem is particularly frustrating, and while I
know it's in Google's hands, I have done a bit of digging and have
found some ways the Spanning Sync team might be able to work around it
(hopefully this can be passed on to the engineering team). Spanning
Sync is trying to download events from the Google servers using the
feed. The Google servers choke on requests to the feed that Spanning
Sync makes that look like the following (I've removed some of the
details for my privacy):

http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/REDA...@group.calendar.google.com/private/full?gsessionid=REDACTED&updated-min=1970-03-17T00:00:00-00:00&max-results=100000

I've noticed that if you change the min from 1970 to 2009, it works
fine (farther back, not so much). So, I would imagine that there may
be a workaround that involves only polling recent events. Has anyone
tried limiting the sync to the past 30 days (I believe Spanning Sync
has such an option)? Spanning Sync team, does this information help
you? This problem really needs a solution, even if it's only a
temporary measure, as this has been happening for nearly a month now.

I tried limiting it to the past 60 and it still failed. then 30 and it still failled... then 20 and still failed. So no such luck changing to only recent events in the application itself. Maybe if the feed is changed in the program code this will work, but nothing the end user can change.

So that's good news. As soon as I learn when that release will be,
I'll let everyone know.

In the mean time, if you've been affected by this problem please

Hi Byron

Have you guys any feedback from Google about when the next service update is going to be? I find it completely unacceptable that we have had this problem from almost the beginning of December and now we have to wait until they do a service update. Where is the customer in all of this? I have paid for a product and service that I am no longer receiving and actually I have now officially run out of patience.

Can someone please fix this problem or can you refund what I paid for Spanning Sync.

Google tells us they've pushed the fixes to their live site, but we're
still hearing from some users that they're seeing the HTTP 500 errors.

If you're still affected, please create a new problem report (Advanced

Hi all,

Just some good news - BusySync seems to work no problem syncing my calendar that Spanning Sync cannot.  My early experiences are good, I'll let you know if there are problems down the line.

So this clearly isn't a Google issue - it has to do with how Spanning Sync is talking to Google.  Too bad they can't resolve it, Spanning Sync was good while it lasted.
